Because money cant make u genuinely happy. Like from the bottom of ur heart.

The closest thing I can think of that might make u happy is like pulling up a homeless guy from the streets (the one who is not already into beg-and-get-wasted-only life cycle). Give him a new life and watch him to raise like a Phoenix from the ash. That would make u really happy no matter which kind of person u r.

Long story short - being alone in a garage full of latest cool cars attached to an amazing house is even more sad than being alone in a dorm.

I dont agree with you about the friends/gf thing. But I respect ur opinion and I genuinely wish u to feel better about relationships.

I also dont agree with the money thing. Money can fullfil ur needs. But people are social nodes, not standalone units. I get that some "nodes" went thru some bad shit but that gives u experiences and makes u to be more careful/smarter. Its not removing the social part from ur needs. It's not that easy and I'm kinda glad for that because it made many people to try again instead of end up the whole story.

What sucks about my job:
Boomers = rigid hours, rigid pay
Low pay ceiling (software jobs skyrocket, engineers traditionally are “successful” if they hit six figures by 45)
Monotonous work
Retarded coworkers
Impossible to do my job remotely

Ultimately the situation is my own fault, but choosing engineering was my first mistake. If I had a CS degree I could at least get my foot in the door at good companies. Might as well kms at this point.

Are kids really that expensive if you're retired? I guess toys/food/clothing can add up to a few thousand a year, but at 1.5m, and living off 4% that's 60k/year or $5000/month.
You don't have to live in an expensive city, so getting a big house in a small town is easily done for under $1.5k/month, then heating/insurance/property tax will bring that up to $2k/month, and for your own+wife's expenses it shouldn't be more than 2k on top of that for internet/phone/clothes/entertainment/food/car payments/insurance/maintenance. That leaves $1k month for your kids, which seems like a lot for toys/food/clothes or diapers/strollers/car seats. I mean what else is there? You don't have to worry about daycare or schools because you will always be around and can homeschool.

I think so many people here inflate their actual worth. Might be because I don't live in the US and where I live people can't earn crazy salaries (like I get 35k dollars for a job which would be 100k in the US), but here in the UK absolutely no one below 30 has that kind of money

You came up with your own definition of the word "poor" which is completely different from what the word really means. According to your definition, 99.5%+ of people in their mid 20s in first world countries are "poor".
Not having enough money to live off of passive income for the rest of your life =/= poor lol.

That's why you come across as a retard/ out of touch. Just say $500k isn't enough to be set for life. It obviously isn't poverty tier in ANY country.

>Because money cant make u genuinely happy.
Truth. I have always had some money, more than just get by paycheck to paycheck, but I never really spent it on much. Always have outdated computers (just upgraded from an 9 year old processor to a 4 year old model), have cars from the mid 90s (not because I like them but because they perform their use as a tool). Don't have expensive habits (drugs, alcohol, whores).. but have always been happy. I even rent my residence - and have enough in to rent at current and prices up to 200% of current for the next ~50 years so see no need to buy yet. I will, for my children eventually. But not yet.
>>24419118
>Why dont u travel
This isn't happyness. Happiness has been denied to the majority of you. They took the family, they took relationships and women. They took it all. I am lucky as I am a little older and was probably on the cusp of being able to find a decent woman to wife when I did. Now it is much harder. Stuff isn't happiness. They poisoned the well of children and noone thinks that is a good move. Travelling is new age possessions.

27 year old EE switching into software dev
doing a boot camp (company is footing the bill since they liked me so much and wouldn't let me hop into a new role without some training)

Bootcamp has been fun, ez since I had some experience prior to this and I naturally like to research and find out the answers and make shit work.

EE sucked because:
1. Lead times / schedules way beyond your control
2. Processes beyond your control
3. So many fucking boomers & gen X-ers who pretty much don't give a shit about you and want answers yesterday
4. No clear path to getting better in my role

Anyway programming is cool. Can't wait to be doing it for money soon

High six figure net worth limbo here. I have a fairly passive income that requires only a few hours per week. In WA where our faggot governor keeps locking everything down, it's pretty boring. I even left town for a few months and it was still pretty boring. The discipline needed to work is actually good for you even though the politics are trash.
