You don't have to live in an expensive city, so getting a big house in a small town is easily done for under $1.5k/month, then heating/insurance/property tax will bring that up to $2k/month, and for your own+wife's expenses it shouldn't be more than 2k on top of that for internet/phone/clothes/entertainment/food/car payments/insurance/maintenance. That leaves $1k month for your kids, which seems like a lot for toys/food/clothes or diapers/strollers/car seats. I mean what else is there? You don't have to worry about daycare or schools because you will always be around and can homeschool.

I'm doing $21k/month and I just turned 21. I really enjoy working on my business so it's pretty good. I live in the same suburb I grew up in, in a house with a bit more room than I need. I lift at the gym 3 times a week, practice Brazilian jiujutsu twice a week, and rock climb twice a week. On Saturday's I visit my (1) friend. On Sunday's I go to church with him. All of these is highly organized and scheduled in a spreadsheet I keep. I'm highly autistic so the strict routine and lack of new experiences is satisficing to me. doing a boot camp (company is footing the bill since they liked me so much and wouldn't let me hop into a new role without some training)

Bootcamp has been fun, ez since I had some experience prior to this and I naturally like to research and find out the answers and make shit work.

EE sucked because:
1. Lead times / schedules way beyond your control
2. Processes beyond your control
3. So many fucking boomers & gen X-ers who pretty much don't give a shit about you and want answers yesterday
4. No clear path to getting better in my role

Ran out of people to learn from at my company. Boss was a good dude but was a dumb fuck about the things we designed. Company didn't respect masters or phds and I didn't care about the subject matter to pursue it to such a depth anyway, not for how poor the pay was and how unclear everything was on a daily basis.

I even left town for a few months and it was still pretty boring. The discipline needed to work is actually good for you even though the politics are trash. I'm literally just waiting to get over a million then I'm moving out of state, buying a couple rental properties to keep the wealth safe and growing, and getting some easy wagie job that keeps me active.
