24373530 No.24373530 [Reply] [Original]

I started with 300$ (client I wrote an essay for offered to pay 10% more if I accepted payment in stablecoins) in December last year and I traded my way through to this (pic related). I’m a otherwise broke teen (<100$ in my bank account), AMA.

>how

learned to use basic trading indicators, started out scalping, got burnt. then played some DeFi alts to get back to 1000$, UNI airdrop gave me more capital for farming food coins, 2-4x leverage trading BTC/ETH/alts since. I take risk management very sincerely (don’t wanna go to 0 again) and spend like 20 hrs/week actively trading now. Also good bit of luck.

>what do u hold now

BTC, ETH, 20% stablecoins (to trade futures denominated in USD). Out of other alts for now.

As for learning resources, there’s no single one I found desu. Keep up with crypto news (twitter community if you wanna be on the ground 0, I’ve had luck turning on notifications for a lot of developers + traders in the community to front run the herd) and read every trading material you can get your hands on. I kept notes of different concepts (the most useful ones are pre-regulation era market behavior which is often mimicked most in crypto markets imo). There’s a bunch of degenerates trading with 100x leverage on shady exchanges, the same TA that applies to S&P500 doesn’t work here. Start “paper trading” for a month, look at charts and make mock positions (with your own entry, stop loss, target) and see how your PnL looks. Nothing beats time in the market and iterating your strategies. The hardest part is recognizing your own biases (a lot of people don’t cut their loser bags for their winners, instead they LARP as community members for random altcoins).

>howd you choose between coins that actually mooned and the shit that gets shilled?

The rule of thumb (and truth to making 5-10x returns on alts, something that isn’t trivial to do with BTC) is if it’s being shilled, it’s too late. Bag holders might try to convince you otherwise but they have perverse incentives. Your best bet is gaining an edge by scouring low-mid cap alts that have room to run. You can only do that by actually interacting with the protocol (while it’s early and undervalued) and “sell the news” when it gets to the shilling stage. It’s a zero sum game at the end of the day. I’d recommend keeping an eye on crypto developers on twitter/reddit. Tagging their interactions is how I’ve extracted most alpha.

Hmm can tell you're legit, you don't know about the filters.

What do you look for in a succesful altcoin? If I invested 2200 a couple months back, and I have 3500 from easy plays like BTC and ETH - how would you go about trading this money? I know it's a pretty self serving question

>> No.24373885

Don’t use leverage until you get to a point where you have a smol “gambling bag” to fuck around. I’d say around 10-15% of your portfolio max. I’ve lost big on leverage trades a few times and it’s not a fun feeling. Always have a spot bag that you only send money into and not out. I still think DCA + accumulate + HODL is going to pay off in the long term, just don’t let shitcoins hold you back. Good luck anon!

For good altcoins, you need a solid narrative (however fluff it may be) and decent liquidity more than bullish TA desu. You want something that makes sense to the average normie who holds BTC and ETH and would ape into. I think a ton of the underlying technical goals are BS for more projects but if it’s early + it’s cheap (you’d be surprised how many people still fall for the “it’s under 1$, what if it goes up as much as BTC” crap) + you have a mental model from experience as to how alts are going to cycle (this is important to know when to cut your bags for BTC or USD, don’t fall in love with them). Also the reason I mention liquidity is, the worst position you can be as a trader is holding bags of shitcoins (even if you’re in a profit, instead of being in BTC or USD) that would tank the books should you sell. For this reason, I stay away from ultra low market cap stuff; you’ll likely just lose money there. Also, ALT-PERP and DEFI-PERP are good pairs to get exposures to alts as a whole (sample play: you anticipate BTC and ETH to go up bleeding alts, you can long BTCUSD + ETHUSD while shorting ALTUSD). The reason I bring that up is plays like that are how you compound your winnings fast. But lookup and read risk management on leveraged instruments before trying a play like that (bc there are ways to hedge your positions for cheap with options in case a black swan event wipes out the entire market)

As funny as this sounds, the strategy that has paid off most is setting stink bids way below support for when that shit tanks (often happens when BTC trends up and people FOMO by selling alts for corn) . Once I get filled, it’s only a matter of time before it corrects and I exit.

@BTC_JackSparrow (smug cunt called the rally to near ATH and current correction perfectly)
@CryptoGainz1 (algo trader who live tweets his trades a lot)
@CryptoCred (if you’re a noob trying to wrap your head around TA lessons)
@AltcoinPsycho (name says it all)
@CryptoCobain (for the lulz and bc he’s a crypto OG so you’ll find more people to follow by eyeing us mentions).
@Cryptopathic (meme lord but also gets moonshot calls eerily correct)

Know that they don’t have a 100% hit rate and you need to start building your own trading setups, but this is a nice way to stick your finger up in the air to see which way the wind is blowing.
