Commodities general.

For those interested in investing in or discussions related to Commodities.

>> No.24248276

What kinds of commodities are people invested/interested in? Im coming over from PMG so the only ones I know of are precious metals along with things like timber and oil. Im also interested in agriculture.

Anyone have predictions for any specific commodities markets? I think oil is a decent buy right now but thats probably gonna be a five year hold.

>> No.24248316

I think helium is a good commodity to invest in. Supposedly incredibly scarce to the point where a helium filled balloon should cost about two hundred dollars. Clinton sold all of our strategic helium during his administration and it is incredibly important for things like MRI machines and space travel (also party baloons)

check out odd balls like onions beans, ironically there a major feed product / commodity that the asian market depends on, something China has to buy almost exclusively from the US due to other nations not generating enough to be bothered with.

Also just popping in while I wait for someone to make a PMG thread. Other commodities you guys should look into are Iron, nickel, lithium, coal. Molybdenum might be an interesting one as well.

Uranium is a good one. Im thinking stocks of agribusiness companies, mining companies, timber companies, and oil companies.

There was an oil tanker craze here a while ago anf a lot of people made a lot of money investing in oil tanking companies.

I wonder if we shouldnt look into LNG companies as well. Liquified natural gas is becoming a major energy source for india as they make plans to move away from coal fired power plants. Heavy industry is also looking more to LNG for energy as bunker fuels become more heavily regulated.

We're going to need some links in the OP if we want to make this a thing. Personally I wouldn't mind if /pmg/ was used for base metals / uranium and other minable commodities as well as pm's but a commodity general is great because it would include agriculture and oil for example. During peak corona time, beef prices were actually starting to run wild. Being exposed to anything food related was a sure fire bet at the time. Agriculture does have it's seasonal cycles and there's even overall price indicators. I was working on location out southern Kansas and their local radio station would give those updates like they were the DJI and S&P, so where one could find that as an online indicator (or a reliable one) is anyone's guess. It could be added to the OP for future threads.

You take water, electrify it and it seperate a the hydrogen and oxygen. If you use renewable electricity (wind, solar, hydro, nuclear) then hydrogen is considered a renewable gas. The case for hydrogen is a clean burning industrial fuel. It beats electric cars because it can be refueled instantly instead of having to charge

>> No.24259561

>>24259303
That's very interesting. I assume the oxygen is also extracted as a byproduct?
How economical is the electricity cost for turning water into hydrogen? Or are there any other drawbacks to the commodity? Surely it can't be all sunshine and rainbows right?

>> No.24259715

>>24259561
AFAIK the membranes needed for the process are expensive. There are a lot of doubters, but I suggest you look into it. PLUG made hydrogen fuel cells for industrial forklifts. This year they bought out a hydrogen producing facility and have been producing their own hydrogen. They use the hydrogen in their own fuel cells, but will have production capacity to provide fuel for the “hydrogen economy”. Google hydrogen economy
