Just so everyone knows once it reaches 100% doesn't mean ETH is going to shoot up & double.

It most likely will stay in the $600s for a few days and slowly break up to $700 and then $800 after December 1st. Most likely by January 2021 it will be in the $1k-$1.2k price range and break up into a new high of $1.5-$1.8k and then find it's new norm of +$1k/eth.

There's not going to be some parabolic moon like what happened in 2017 and other with other newer coins getting early adoption. Don't believe the FUD. The highest it will be this year is $1800/eth until Oct/Nov 2021 and pushes to a new high. This all depends how fast eth 2.0 becomes in operation as well. if there is many hang ups & issues and is too problematic.. expect eth to shit the bed and go under $500/coin again.

phase 0 (right now) consists of launching the beacon chain, people are staking their eth to become validators on a new proof of stake consensus network.
they just reached the cutoff needed of people staking, so the beacon chain will launch on December 1st.
ethereum will be pretty much identical for the time being, but during the later stages everything will switch from proof of work to proof of stake, along with creating a bunch of smaller chains called shards.

no problem lad
it all boils down to this:
>a bunch of users send transactions to the network
>someone who is running a "validator node" (takes the place of miners in eth 2.0), is selected at random
>The more eth they have staked, the more likely they are to be picked.
>the guy who got picked (the validator) selects some of the transactions that were sent to the network
>the validator then verifies that each transaction is legit (that it's signed for correctly and spending coins they actually have access to) and adds it to a block.
>Once he has added all the transactions to a block, and has verified they're all correct. He proposes it to a bunch of other validators (the committee, around 100 something different validators) who check his work
>The committee does the same checks on the block (correct signature, amounts, etc), and votes yes if they think everything checks out, and no otherwise.
>if it passes the vote, it gets added to the blockchain and the validator gets the block reward and fees. Otherwise it doesn't get added.
>If someone voted for a malicious block, they lose their stake.

I guess it's possible that something could go wrong and you vote for a bad block on accident, it won't just get rid of everything in your stake right away, there's a whole system of penalties just in case something goes wrong with an honest validator.

It is quite odd. If your area has bad weather and the internet goes down for a bit you will lose your stake as it won't be able to check the transactions sent to it.

It all seems like a nightmare for those staking as any sort of internet downtime will affect their stake.

From what I remember the penalty is lower for no-responses, but if you want to prevent any network slowdown from responding nodes then this is very important. The onus is on the validator nodes to maintain high availability rather than the network to have wait for all the verifications. Slowdowns may also be malicious (think Denial of Service attacks) so it is important to be quite strict on slashing and penalties.

Don't club us actual BTC Maxis with that retard.
Most maxis think of BTC as a sureshot asset for the future, while Eth is a tech play.
IF everything goes right for Eth, that's a big task, but they do have the network effect behind them. I am fairly certain it will surpass BTC's MC in the short near future think 5-10 years. But, Bitcoin will always appreciate slowly but steadily through decades, it's here to stay, meanwhile Eth is a tech which couldn't last forever.
