So I'm reading up bonds and I suppose there's something I'm missing.

If you have a bond with a payout of $1000, and a rate of 10 percent for both corporate and the other one, then when it matures, you wind up with $1000 + $100 x however many years. How does this get priced?

I think I get why bond prices move up and down. it's because as interest rates increase or decrease, the bonds issued previously gain or lose value because you can just get a new bond if rates are better, but if rates are worse, you want those old bonds. I think hte thing I struggle with however is understanding what these get priced at. Nobody is gonna pay "$1000 + $100 x number of years"...so what would they pay?

read anon.. more historical tidbits:

"In the early years of the stock-market rise that began in 1949-50 considerable interest was attracted to various methods of taking advantage of the stock market's cycles. These have been known as "formula investment plans." The essence of all such plans––except the simple case of dollar averaging––is that the investor automatically does SOME selling of common stocks when the market advances substantially.

. . .

Many of these 'formula planners' would have sold all their stocks at the end of 1954, after the U.S. stock market rose 52.6%, the second-highest yearly return then on record. Over the next five years, these market-timers would likely have stood on the sidelines as stocks doubled."

I don't care wether OPTI deal is legit or not

It will create more buzz and hype

The ticket jumped 100% on the news alone that there was a 2 billion dollar deal

It has now been paid for, certified, and they are starting to fulfill the order.

EVEN IF, all of that is not real THERE WILL BE more buzz closer to December 31st, and thats why I bought in Friday.

https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1557340/000107997320000919/optec_8k.htm

The redemption value plus or minus depending on if the bond is in the money or out of the money with its interest bearing rate. A $20,000 bond with a 10% value for five remaining years right now would sell for way over $20,000 because the interest rate is almost 0%. Its an odd time for bonds because the interest rate is so low, normally I could also say a $20,000 bond with five years left of 4% interest will be worth way less than $20,000, but that’s not the case right now.

you're the guy with only $800 in it, so who cares and just let it ride until the end, but it is really pathetic to obsess over it. It's an OTC ticker and you may as well just play weeklies with that lack of risk management

Covid has destroyed my hours as they cut in person classes and sports/gym/pool way back. Thought I would be in good shape a couple weeks ago then BAM university execs freaked the fuck out about the case count spike and shut down even further. Starting salary at UPS would be a pay cut for sure but still manageable.

Rocket lab isn't really competetition to spacex, they're a smallsat launch company. They might steal some of spacex's tiny rideshare payloads but those probably respresent less than ~10% of spacex revenue.

Their rockets are really interestingly designed to be cheap, simple, and reliable though. If almost all of these space companies weren't private I'd be investing.

UPS Career routes goes as follows:

1) Work there temporarily just to make some emergency money

2) Work there permanently, either going through

a) Managment
b) Driver Route

Either route, your first year is boring, miserable and exhausting. If you stick through, it becomes much easier.

Luckily for me, I bypassed all that BS. Signed up to be a CDL Driver for UPS. Union wages are Yummy.

Also fits my anti-social personality.

>>24134057
I'm into boxing. I get to choose my routes. I can either:

1) Work 11-16 hour days, get paid 100-150k.

2) Work 8-10 hour days, get paid 80-100k.

I chose option 2, so I can actually retire in 20 years without dying 5 years later.

The guys working inside the warehouse, loading, unloading are in great shape cardio wise. Anyone that does that job loses 10-20 pounds the 1st month, guaranteed.

I was an unloader for FedEX for 2 months in my 20's. It fucked up my lower back and knees towards the end. It's great job for those who want to exercise while making money, but it's not sustainable.

If the stock market does crash, money would flow into bonds. This pushes interest rates lower, and you sell the bond at a profit.

When interest rates rise, this causes stress to the credit market. This is the order of how capital structures get crushed:

The first assets to depreciate are:
- Equities
- Real estate
- Junk bonds (they're positively correlated to equities)

These assets do reasonably well
- Mortgage backed securities
- Corporate Bonds
- Municipal Bonds

These assets are risk free (but they carry currency risk)
- Government Bonds
- TIPS

This asset has optionality but has inflation risk, and also "bail-in" risk since it becomes an equity position if your bank fails.
- Cash

This asset has deflation risk.
- Gold
- TIPS

The best way to understand this is by reading up on capital structures. Remember that stocks are the first to go to zero, then mezzanine debt, then senior debt (bonds), and finally bank loans/debtor-in-possession debt.

Banks get first dibs (they get all their money back), then bondholders (they get most back), then mezzanine debt holders (they get some back), and then finally, shareholders (who get practically nothing).

easy to say in hindsight

it doesn't make sense as a target to trim profits on, and GME is such a volatile stock that every pullback can easily be followed by a whipsaw the next day so it's hard to justify setting a trailing stop this early

Plenty of vidya shit and MMOs are still "alive", but in terms of stocks, they'd be like value traps that aren't growing anymore

but say we ignore all that shit because we're boomer investors and don't actually understand vidya. The biggest red flag is the fact that Roblox needed to do an IPO in the first place.
