For $300 you got a DVD player (remember back then a dvd player alone would run 200/300), full backwards compatibility with PS1 games,accessories so you could sell your PS1 hardware for a profit and not feel bad about it. Then all the PS2 games as a bonus. Xbox 360,PS3, the b.c was spotty at best, hell later models of the PS3 did away with b.c altogether.

90% games that the big producers shell out money for don't actually make money and rely on the 10% to make up the rest. AA and AAA has been on its last legs for maybe 10 years now. The money that actually comes in is from whales and microtransactions (lootbox, battle pass, etc) and everyone is freaking out because of EU legislation. Sony's most profitable game is Fate Grand Order. The money to make good AA/AAA games is not out there anymore, it doesn't actually make any sense.

Expect $75 games in the future, at the very least. Vidya budgets are increasing much more than playerbases are increasing for their respective genres so it has to happen. It's not an if, it's a when.
