I'm about to start as a 1st year electrical apprentice, how should I aim the trajectory of my career so I can make money? I don't want to be some goon who just runs wire until my body breaks, I want to be successful. From what I can hear, I have a few avenues to make $$$:

Start my own business

Get into Industrial Maintenance

Work in the Bush

Get into equipment sales

Work abroad, in the Bush???

Any advice is appreciated.

Join the union. Get an associates related to electrical. Become the big boss of the jobsite because you can read/modify blue prints.
Don't forget to get some SDX (SwapDEX) so you can retire early if you feel like it.

Work private companies if you're young and on your parents health insurance. the rate work in the northeast US tri-state area NY PA NJ is where jourmeyman make 75 to 100 an hour rate work considering there are no health benefits. Commercial work only. Good luck as a fellow apprentice this isn't an easy plan b, this is serious schooling for serious money.

realistically you need to do all of those. Probably at the same time.

From what I've heard you get a better apprenticeship from a good company than the union. But then once I get my Red Seal (Canada Journeyman) then the Union does pay more.

As one dude? Are you talking about starting my own business or doing gig work

>>24048771
Im in Western Canada, I can only imagine making $100 USD an hour lol. Even the guys out in the mines or the rigs don't make that here. Are those guys working full time?

>>24048773
Probably better to go all in on one though

>> No.24048903

Yes mostly work full time, however during covid its been rough getting the jobs that my company is used too as far as commercial work goes. Mostly everything is on hold aside from any government funded work deemed a priority.

yeah, I'm saying start a company and do industrial work in the bush, have equipment for sale as well.

that's the sort of niche you need to get rich in a world where every tenth idiot is an electrician.
