nobody expected btc to ever go anywhere if we're being honest. not way back then. it was a digital currency experiment that was obviously flawed in it's ability to scale. the only people interested in it were developers who appreciated the novel approach to the double spend issue (the Hal Finnleys), and absolute retards who thought the world was going blow up (the Max Keisers)

its an interesting aspect of the human mind that it can't properly understand history because it fills in the details it knows from the future.
so normies say "can you imagine selling btc at .30?!?!?!?!?!!?!" but they can't understand that it was considered beyond worthless back then. even the most retarded shitcoin has a perceived legitimacy to it that btc never enjoyed.
those of us who were around in early days understand and realize why we may've wound up selling much too early....

>as an amazing thought experiment...imagine that bitcoin becomes the dominant payment system in use throughout the world
anon.... absolutely no one believed that was possible, certainly not Hal Finnley. it's a thought experiment. Hal woke up to the BTC price in like 2014 and was shocked to see it. there's interviews with him about this. in 2008, you couldn't just create digital currency and expect that it would have any value. we all knew that BTC couldn't scale, and its true that it can't. BTC failed as a digital currency experiement a long time ago and is now traded as a commondity... which was unexpected too.

Read about BTC first in 2011 and started mining with my trusty old GTX 570. Stopped after having a few BTC, because mining was a hassle, often freezing the system or destroying the GPU, high electricity costs, and all the BTC I got were worth a pittance.

Sold half of them for a grand total of less than a thousand dollars after the first pump to $20 per BTC. Had depressions ever since. Cashed in the leftover in December 2017 for almost half a million.

My networth is now about $1.25 million, but it makes me sick that I don't have many more millions. It's a gut-wrenching feeling. It fucking sucks.

>> No.23995897

>>23994888
yeah totally. not only was the idea of bitcoin in 2008-2009 not serious...it actually felt dangerous. I remember feeling like I needed to remain anonymous because "what are the odds that the feds see something like this and decide to bring charges against people for some dumb shit like 'conspiracy to overthrown the government'". you couldn't just mint currency in 2008!

Lots of us aren't ruled by money, but guess what? You need money to live someplace nice, to eat the foods that you like, to do the fun things that you want to do, etc etc. I think you're confusing needing money to have a nice life and just wanting money out of pure greed. And by the way, he sold his stack for $510 and at the peak of the last bullrun, it would been worth just under $34 million. Kek

These stories honestly make me feel better. I knew about BTC since 2011. At that time I built my first real gaming PC, and I thought "hell, I should try using my new GPU to mine these buttcoin things". But I was a high-time-preference nigger and when I couldn't immediately figure out how to set up the mining software, I just moved on to other things.

These stories make me feel better because they remind me that even if I actually did go through with it and mine some bitcoin, I most likely would've sold them soon after, rather than waiting 6+ years. So it's all a wash.

this year alone we've seen a ton of shitcoins pull more than 100x after it was first shilled here. some have gone 1000x. if you didn't get rich this year, it's cause you didn't buy the right coins first time you heard about them (cause they were dumb), or because you sold too early. not sure why newfags think they'd have recognized btc as being something worth something 10 years ago.
