i can't tell you anything about Xumm but I know when I connected my Metamask to my Ledger I had to change it in the message field on the XRPL to get the address right and it worked pretty easily.

If you are uncertain I would recommend using Exodus, I have a small stack in there and they make setting up the Flare account super easy, literally two clicks of a button and 30 seconds and you are set.
