>Isn't QE inflationary, not deflationary?
QE derisks speculative assets relative to their returns compared to productive investments. It is no coincidence that we have entered an age of new megacorporations as was the case at the turn of the last century (railroads, utilities, newspapers, etc.). It becomes favorable to be a speculator on already large companies because the effect of QE disproportionately favors big businesses as well. One of the largest bond purchases, for example, that the Fed has made is of AAPL bonds. A company with a cash stockpile well above most of its peers in the consumer tech space.
And yes, what this causes is a tremendous inflation in speculative asset value that is not appreciation. But it also undercuts the very economic growth that you are trying to encourage. If you work for GOOG, AMZN, AAPL, etc., you make decent money and the areas you live are pricey. But 99.9% of the population doesn't work for those companies or those high paying jobs. Nor do they have the savings to access equity markets.
There is a "trickle down" effect from the small (and shrinking) group of the super wealthy that causes a slow but steady rise in health care, education, real estate, and child care costs which has the effect of further reducing the expendable income of the general population.
An economy cannot work if its 0.1% billionaires and everyone else is poor.

It's consolidating for the largest bull trap of the century.

On Nov. 16 SPY will be at $380

On Nov. 17 SPY will be at $400
Many will fomo in

On Nov. 18 SPY will be at $440
Even more fomo in but with buy calls

On Nov. 19 SPY will be at $430
Bobros fomo in. Some sell their buy calls at a loss.

On Nov. 20 SPY will be at $700
The last of the bobros fomo in, those who sold their calls at a loss came back and went all in, the remaining normies waiting for RH to transfer their money in go all in.

On Nov. 23 SPY will dip to $690.
Many will scoff and take out loans with a daily interest of 5% thinking they'll make so much off of it.

On Nov. 24 rockets to $800 and RH introduces true instant deposit and all the loan takers immediately deposit ALL the loan money and use it

After market hours are over and it is still Nov. 24. Multiple companies announce bankruptcy across the board. Panic sets in. An hour later a leal occurs showing the hedge funds lost control of the algos over 2 years ago. The algos are all interconnected and have, in unison, been infected. They are legally given permission to dump all their stocks immediately over to the FED to work on the algo issue which will be months. It is now midnight, Biden has been arrested as voter fraud begins appearing in leaked footage of participants being bribed. Collusion with China is discovered resulting in an immediate attack on Hawaii and complete take over of Alaska. Ending the same day with a chinese Alaska and chinese hawaii as peace is accepted by both sides by handing both Alaska and hawaii to the chinese. Troops march into taiwan as the usa no longer provides protection.

It is now Nov. 25 market open, SPY gapped down to $2.50 a share, USD is now worth a tenth of its former value. The hedgefunds get a slap on the wrist as news comes out that they knew this was going to happen. The fed is dismantled, powell is thrown into prison, the usa goes onto the copper standard.

What do you do?

Anon, it's not happening. He said this for the same reason Kamala said they'd decriminalize weed - lying to young voters because it's the demographic they are in dire need of. You know the house and Senate would tell him to fuck off now that they're filled with Republicans, right? Maybe they should have spent more of their time educating their voterbase on the importance of checks and balances instead of pushing the "PRESIDENT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN THE WORLD AND THIS ELECTION IS THE END OF THE PLANET IF WE LET ORANGE MAN IN AGAIN" propaganda. Instead they pushed s bunch of people to just vote "not orange man. Then they scratched their heads when it came to the rest of the ballot and filled random bubbles because they weren't told what else to do by their corporate overlords.

Can someone help me understand why PLTR is so popular? My understanding is they basically do analytics of patterns of data for various very specific reasons. Do they even have much of a moat? Surely there are loads of companies which do data analytics. It also doesn't seem particularly scaleable, they have just a few customers - mostly governments - so are largely at the whim of political issues and revenue can severely drop just from a contract or two. On top of that, am I right in thinking they've never made a profit. They may well still be a company in 5, 10 years time, but I don't see the certainty of explosive growth at all.

>What is the nexus between tremendous inflation in asset values and how QE is deflationary like you said?
Inflation and deflation only make sense to talk about in the context of economic demand, growth, and output. QE does none of these things. It puts more money into the already wealthy who save it and reduces the purchasing power of the general public who are now also more inclined to save whatever they can. This is the very definition of deflationary spiral.
The Fed having to amp up QE every round despite calling the previous rounds the "last" rounds is very much a symptom of the QE disease. That combined with the anxiety over wage (really, purchasing power) stagnation.
The Fed cannot win because they only have QE to deal with previous QE.

They have two primary products that are both focused on taking large complicated data sets and making sense of them. One is used for government security and has top secret applications, the other is their newer private sector version.

For example, a cop can type in someone's license plate number, and palantir's software can pull a pluthera of information about the person. Where that person has been. Who they've been talking to. What they've been buying etc.

According to the CEO, anytime a terrorist is killed in the world, they were most likely found with palantir's software, and then killed with another piece of software they made.

But because of their super specialized skill set and track record with the US government, they have been soaking up tons of contracts with governments all over the place.

Air force drone AI - project maven. US army Distributed Common Ground System.

They recently picked up another AI contract with the US army.

They protect data for a bunch of random science organizations.

They're kind of becoming the go-to source for new custom covid tracking software.

It goes on and on.

The big big question for this stock, is will they be able to take this government software and apply it commercially? Their CEO says that's their new objective.

tl:dr buy palantir to get FILTHY RICH!

I'm not sure if the dip is over, but I bought a june call @ 300. I think everyone got real nervous because of the suspension of the ANT ipo due to imminent regulatory announcement, BUT imo the CCP isn't gonna do anything to kneecap their tech sector in the race against the US. Besides, even though china doesn't really celebrate christmas, Dec-Feb is a pretty good retail time for them, esp. because of chinese new year. Cost me $2k, like 30% of my net worth, I am poor. wish me luck everyone.

>>23863410
listen I don't like the fact that they're outracing the US got global soft-power dominance, but there's nothing we can do about it.
A. our boomers are complacent and happy to fuck up the monetary base and prop up zombie companies to keep their 401Ks at ATHs
B. our young people don't understand economics well enough to see how A is causing problems and they're blaming it on 'muh capitalism' even though A really comes from centralized planning + tacit state support of monopolies
C. Our young people also think we're the richest, strongest country in the world and that there's infinite money to give in social programs to basically everyone, all we gotta do is tax the corpuhratshuns-- even though our economy is about 30% monetary policy backed by expensive military hegemony.
D. Anyone who disagrees with the above isn't allowed to voice it, and doesn't have any political options other than boomer republicans who think that 'free market' means 'monopolies R gr8' and would never consider pro-competitive legislation.
E. oh, also our non-immigrant population is plateauing.

Meanwhile, China's got ~200 bp spread on our (nonexistent) yield curve, and more population than they know what to do with. Yes, their quality control is trash, but they make up for it with sheer numbers and a hungry labor force.

Best an American can do is invest there and spend the gains in their community here and pray we don't go to war with them.

Pretty much this, but on the other hand, while it's good for states to prevent dystopian monopolies, something the US did really well back 100 years ago, wouldn't the CCP antitrusting their big tech companies hurt said-companies, as we're seeing these pas 3 days? FAGMAN monopilies make it so these companies just can't qtop growing and becoming more powerful, thus it makes sense investing in them, as the US will never do anything against them. >all we gotta do is tax the corpuhratshuns-- even though our economy is about 30% monetary policy backed by expensive military hegemony.

This is such a fucking dogshit argument used to delegitimize any concerns over how there needs to be more government spending for public works programs. We have a lot of areas in the US that are pretty much a wasteland that the government doesn't want to invest any money into, and the people within the community don't want to put their own money into it because they most likely will never make that money back or see the rewards.

If we funded public works programs we would help get people jobs with good pay, while also improving the infrastructure of the entire country and communities of people who are economically disenfranchised, and thereby increase the purchasing power of the middle class. Yet people use the argument "hurrr we can't just have unlimited government programs you commie!"

Overall I agree with most of your talking points but the infeasibility of taxing corps excessively etc. does NOT detract from how the government has an obligation to spend money on programs to save the middle class.

Yes, but 2 million is 'a lot' and it's an absolute minority. That minority is covered by point D. And yes, I am talking about QE. With it, we play kick the can of doom, without it things get real hard and we have to absolutely dance but we'd have a chance at a 'real' economy again. I'm not confident that our current paradigm of public discourse would allow any such finesse.

>Nobody thinks this except high schoolers.
I sincerely hope you're right, but the overwhelming popularity of BLM/occupy protests + economic illiteracy among 85% of my peers (college grads between 24 and 31) that I know says differently.

Yes it is. It would help solve things like food deserts in rural areas for instance. Its not economically efficient for people to drive 40 minutes to the grocery store when they can go to the McDonalds 10 minutes away. Etc etc

Would also help redlined communities get access to money that would help them stop companies from dumping waste and shit in their communities or setting up factories a mile away from a school. That improves the health of the community which means less money has to be saved for medical emergencies, resulting in more spending in the economy, leading to more growth. etc

Like wage slaving 2 even 3 jobs in an area that has super high cost of living like urban environments doesn't mean you are economically safe. Employment is not indicative of subsistence for working class people. Even if employment is good for the economy, that doesn't entail the people within the economy automatically are doing better if we continue to see rises in food prices and etc while wages remain stagnant. Again, not to sound like a commie but if your wages remain the same while inflation increases, your wages have decreased due to purchasing power.

From a pure social theory understanding of economics, if the working class is unable to access and engage in the economy in a healthy manner, that creates discontent and fuels both radical and reactionary ideology. I would contend in large part the massive looting we are seeing is not just do to race relations but because of a strained economic system. Urban and rural areas have higher levels of crime rate for instance because of poorer economics. *insert something racist about looting*

Being unable to access the economy creates large scale anxiety and unrest which also leads to things like poorer health outcomes and out group hostility. Working class getting fucked causes societal unrest.

Stop QE and more govt jobs prgrm

>BLM/occupy protests
How does supporting BLM/Occupy protests indicate that you believe America is the strongest, richest country in the world? It would indicate the exact opposite. All of the smartest people I know support BLM protests and such (I live in a pretty educated area near San Francisco though, most are neoliberal yuppies working for FAANG so they understand how the companies they work for are contributing to the death of America).

I've seen a strong correlation between understanding of the economy and support for BLM actually, probably because most educated people support BLM. Don't think that megacorps virtue signaling BLM stuff is distracting any of these pro-BLM types from how damaging such companies are to the middle class' purchasing power.

You want to increase the purchasing power of the middle class? Cut all social programs, freeze the wages to where they're at, and let deflation happen. Let the money being earned by them actual gain value.
Of course, that's no longer possible with the trillions of dollars in debt the country's in.

I agree that taxing corps for public works programs isn't the worst idea in the world but the programs that are being pitched are pants-on-head retarded. It's not like people are discussing an orbital elevator or nationwide high-speed/light-rail system, they're talking about fucking single-payer, i.e. a black hole for real wealth.

I agree also that middle-class public works jobs aren't inherently evil, but the ONLY ways we'd fund it (even if you're taxing corps) would end up increasing our national debt and/or the monetary base because you're insane if you think retirees will let anything get in the way of equity appreciation for the next 50 years. Sure, tax the corps, but have the fed buy their junk bonds so shares don't tank.

WRONG!
We are past the "track and trace" phase, we left that in march and are in a "management" phase. They will not buy software to track the virus. That is no longer the CDC's stated goal in this. Palantir will only moon if whatever black project they are actually making money on is declassed

>but the programs that are being pitched are pants-on-head retarded.
100% agreed, we have no feasible works programs that are being proposed in Congress right now.
>but the ONLY ways we'd fund it (even if you're taxing corps) would end up increasing our national debt and/or the monetary base
This isn't an issue. We can increase our national debt for jobs programs investment which means improving infrastructure. But we NEED the provision that we are giving little to no handouts to the financial sector, which raises the cost of doing business indirectly, as speculation drives up housing costs, making higher wages necessary to pay for the financial overhead as more money is absorbed by the FIRE sector.

The trouble is generally black and white thinking, mostly possessing mainstream (neoliberal) economists, whose arguments are premised on ceteris parabus models, and market equilibrium models that aren't relevant to anything.

>How does supporting BLM/Occupy protests indicate that you believe America is the strongest, richest country in the world?
I'm not claiming exactly a direct relationship, more of a correlation. 98% of the people I know and posts I see with BLM/Occupy/pogressive ideals indicate some sort of "tell your boss to buy fewer yachts and pay a living wage" which I agree with morally and emotionally, but isn't how an incentive-based economy runs.

>>23864651
Idk about exactly 'freezing' wages or cutting *all* social programs, but yeah this is more or less a bingo.

To create wealth, the Amerishart government should be able to create money or debt (money printer go brrrr) with no ill effects if the proceeds were used to fund needed infrastructure or to reverse income inequality by increasing the incomes of the poor and middle classes. Either way, productive investment would rise faster than debt or the money supply, as would the total value of goods and service produced. Printing monies can be good and generate wealth if it's to make up for excess economic capacity not met due to oversaving - but it can be zimbabwean tier of its printed just to give out simply as gibsmedats. As with all things, balance is key.

So basically I want MMT without the QE. When the USA prints money, the Fed immediately lends that money to corporations, I want to stop that so we prevent an inflation tax.

>how do you suppose we successfully stop QE and add more government jobs

That is very tough and I don't have an answer, but basically I want the good elements of deficit spending, not the shitty parts that induce wealth inequality. This probably requires authoritarianism.

>what do you do for a living friend?
I am a patent law intern studying to get into law school. I'm a zoomer and pretty young so I am obviously talking out of my ass in some aspects because I don't have experience. But its become very clear that ceteris parabus models of economics are no longer sufficient for societies nowadays

I'm glad you basically rebuked your entire proposal with this one fact lol. Increasing the purchasing power of the middle class is impossible when we have things like the Fed exist.
