Income tax doesn't go anywhere. The state prints all the money it needs and distributes the rest into the economy. Income tax "burns" some of this money away so the economy doesn't undergo hyperinflation.

Property taxes (theoretically) really does go towards local and state governments; but these same local govts ultimately take a ton of the printed fedgov money anyway to actually function.

Ultimately it's all a big grift.

Are taxes the reason why most people have to start from square one?

I've been thinking it over and there's something that I'm beginning to realize that upsets me. If your family has existed in a country for over a hundred years, and they haven't been totally dirt poor the entire time, your family should have an estate. An accumulation of wealth passed down from generation to generation. This mentality seems exclusive to the elites, but surely generations of boomers and greatest generation have the wealth to have gotten this going in full force. Why is it that only the Donald Trumps of the world get that head start with a "modest loan of a million dollars" and we're all starting off working shitty jobs.

The more that I think about it, the more that I don't get it. I don't come from a poor family, maybe taxes are the culprit or maybe my family is just stupid with an individualist mindset.

wealth represents the value created for other people. There's only so many individuals that create more "wealth" for others than they consume for themselves. Trump may have created enough value that involves sharing his value creation process with 100 employees and Bezos enough to share to 2 million employees.
but if you have enough ability to create value on your own that can be justified to be shared with employees, you'll always be subject to income tax, healhcare taxes, insurances, pensions, benefits, etc. for those "slaves"

since politicians seek a minimm of 50% of votes to get into power, their taxes will always be less for a larger segment of population and higher for a smaller segment of the population. since taking a higher percantage of tax from the greatest value creators; the wealthy, and giving it to the poorest 50%, or the least value creators, your wealth transfer policies will gain more votes than they lose you.

But the debt itself is still there so in order to fund the government they have to use deficit spending, because they are in debt and have no money, deficit spending then adds even more to the national debt. This in turn results in higher interest rates on said national debt which nessessitates higher taxes to pay that interest.

This process continues until the nation is bankrupt.

income tax on the federal level mostly goes to defense spending. medicare tax and premiums go to medicare. we pay social security tax which overfunds the trust fund and the feds borrow from that fund to pay for other things.

property taxes go to your town. in my state half to schools, the other half to roads and the rest to fluff.

you can parse it all however you want. it's like making 1 dollar through work and borrowing 1 dollar then arguing the dollar you earned went to your gun or food and the borrowed dollar went to your gun or food. it's all one big mix.
