You're wrong. Gore was never ahead in the count; he kept trying to cheat his way to victory by changing how ballots were counted.

In the end, after exhaustive analysis, the only way he would have won the count is with one single set of conditions that he and his campaign never requested. Every other set of conditions ended with Bush winning the count. It took the Washington Post and some other newspapers nearly six months of recounting and modeling to figure that out.
