There is no sales tax here on bullion (coin/rounds/bars) here in Canada if it is at least .995 pure for gold, or .999 pure for silver. The 1000 dollars number comes in for capital gains realization on coins specifically, though what exactly the CRA considers a coin I need to call them and figure out exactly, but basically, and coin you sell is considered listed personal property, and if you sell it for less than $1000, you don't pay capital gains on it. If you sell it for more than $1000, you count it's value for capital gains purposes as the actual selling price.

Yeah yeah I know, low cost average, but is this a foolproof way to buy?

1) COINS WITH /AN/IMALS OR (IDEALLY /S/EXY) WOMEN ON THEM: Everyone loves qt animals, and coomers i.e. men love women. Coins that have either will always have some ornamental value to women children and men, even if their metal value fell literally to zero.

2) COINS MADE OF AT LEAST SOME PRECIOUS METAL: Okay this is obvious.

3) COINS WITH ANTIQUE VALUE: Not even necessarily that old, even coins from the 1990s evoke nostalgia in 30yo boomers. Coins from particularly popular time periods like the 1950s and 1960s basically everywhere, or even before that Victorian Britain or pre-Revolutionary France, for example, will always be desired.

4) COINS THAT ARE GENERALLY ATTRACTIVE IN THEIR DESIGN: Obvious of course, but yeah people dig nice things.

If you buy coins that tick as many as possible or all of these boxes, aren’t you essentially guaranteed a good premium in almost any conceivable future situation?

(Of course, as an actual precious metals investment this is a terribly frivolous idea, I just think it’s funny)

Their likely target will be Ascot Resources in a few years, or a similar medium operator that can take over at Porter Idaho or their Willoughby prospect. For all intents and purposes and what most people here are stacking for right now - no.
Mint and date is only really relevant when you're focusing on the premiums end of PMs (which, don't get me wrong, if you know what you're doing you can make some bank on during the bull economies which PMs typically do poorer/stagnate in), however most people here right now (and who should be investing in PMs right now) only care about how much actual metal is in each coin, as we wait on a crash (which only really cares about spot amount over what's printed on it)

Actually Anon, you're objective, factually incorrect.
Your metal is, and always will be worth basically the exact same, for all of time as is and for all the foresseable future. It's not that the value of your metal is increasing, it's that the value of the currency you're comparing it with is decreasing (hence, you need more of the less valuable currency to buy the same amount as you did yesterday). It's the fundamental reason for why PMs are the (pun intended) Gold standard for crashes, since they retain value so concretely.
It's not much of a abstract concept once you get your head around it, and granted, if you look into Silver, you've got to learn about the general supression of the metal and all the crazy shit going on with that and how it's value actually is lower than it should be - but as a general rule it still holds true that your metal is not increasing in value at all, only the fiatshit money you're putting it against is failing.

Any giga brain sterling silver frens here?

I bought a lot of 190 grams of jewelry for $80. Mostly necklaces and loose charms and few tiny stones. How can I test if its real?

I have about 50 ounces of sterling cups, spoons etc and my small neodymium magnet doesnt stick to them but does have a small noticeable pull and rolls slower than normal off the bowls and cups. I tied it to a string and the magnet swings around but stops faster when hovering over the sterling.

I tried this with the jewelry lot and I get no reactions from most of the stuff, despite it all being marked 925 or sterling. The clasps on the necklaces stick, chains dont, one does though. Its not a hard stick though. The larger pieces has a reaction like the bowls and cups I have. Like a bracelet and heavy chain I have.

So what gives? I looked online and I guess some sterling chains earrings etc do react to magnets but some dont. Some are 92.5% silver mixed with copper which isnt reactive but some pieces can be mixed with something other than copper which can react.

Maybe the pieces are not big enough, or my magnet is too small? I dont want to buy a sigma. I would rather spend the $700 on more silver.

Well it all comes down to what you want to get out of it tbqh
If you want to stack metal value, max spot, if you want to refine, max spot - fee, if you want to have a treasure hoard, depends on what you want to pay

An acid test would be cheap and give you a clear idea of what it is, but it’s not great if you actually want to sell it later as jewelry

only thing is, the shop is selling silver American Eagles at ~$5 over spot. I'm a stacklet, so it's probably better to save up for bars. Got less than $1000 total in physical. How am I doing and what last minute hoards do I need?

All getting melted. How do I acid test a tiny frail chain? Some of these weigh less than 2 grams.

Should I just lay one tip of the chain on an ice cube and see how fast the other end gets cold?

Alright thanks anon. Kind of sucks that we don't have any refineries where you can just go and ask them to turn junk into .999 just like that. We have companies that buy metals sure, and ones that operate at company-scale, not for individuals.
I guess that's a hole in the market... I've been interested in chemistry for a long time, if I decide to go study that I might be able to fill that hole. I could become the fabled metal recycling company anon

Smaller pieces of sterling (or similar quality) silver doesn't stick to the magnet the same way bigger pieces do, or so somebody explained to me in an earlier thread before

You could do that but you don’t need to make a massive gouge, just rubbing it will get the layer off pretty quickly
>>23766334
Metal recycling is kinda based and I’m considering it because we have no refiners either but it’s a bit of a niche market, either way best of luck

But for real you pay whatever you want, just keep spot and sub-spot in mind as a best-case scenario. Don’t forget the multiply the weight by .925 so you have a better idea of the actual content

Aye, thanks. Indeed a niche market, and over here that means super niche. Might not be the best idea after all. Still doesn't hurt to daydream. I might just learn refining itself and do it for myself, I've got a friend who studies chemistry. Might ask him about that some day
