Honestly, anything that pays with money.

Everyone I know always starts off screaming video games, but I know the market is a lot wider then that. And there are careers to be made. My current professor used to be a medical illustrator for court cases. He is a well paid man.

Me personally, I'm drawn to Storyboard Illustration. And I also kinda have one foot in the door.

Oh, but its a lot of work, practice, and frustration considering its a craft. Drawing and illustrating is something one learns over decades of study, and usually people really come into their own after they find a good position.

In a market where skill and reputation is the main factor, you have to stay vigilant and dedicated. I can't tell you how many kids sign up for this and then trade majors because they thought it was going to be drawing anime bitches all day and realized that you have to draw people realistically, use reference, and stay up drawing all night not because its for a grade but because you need the practice desperately. Best believe the graduating class numbers are in the single digits.

Reality check for them, heaven for me.

Just an advice anon, Try to publish a portfolio that you want to do like rather than making something that "sells". A varied portfolio is somewhat a turn off for employers.

I am interested in starting some sort of inventing firm. It has been a dream of mine since I was a kid to create the newest and best technologies; creations that will push us into the future. I learned that being an Engineer means that you use most of your time inventing trivial things or fixing things for others instead of yourself (and the only time I would be able to invent things of my own would be with my limited time and resources).

I decided to follow the old rule (around 10th grade of a complete future change) of "surround yourself with individuals smarter than yourself" and pursue a future as a business owner. I would handle the business aspects of the company and would pay people to invent my ideas for me (of course that is a very summarized and dumbed down concept of my whole plan).

Plus, I don't want to be poor my entire life and I have found that I am quite good at conducting business and starting potential business ventures. Of course I understand starting a business is one of the most risky and potentially difficult things for a student to do, but I believe I have the brains, creativity, and drive to ultimately follow my dreams and become successful.

I understand the difficulties and barriers of entry for the larger inventing firms that create truly revolutionary pieces of technology, so my plan from right out of the gate is to start small. The company I plan to start with is a normal inventing firm inventing and selling/selling the rights to more commercial goods. The barriers to entry are still decently high, but I still have two years to keep working out the kinks in my business plan (and most of what I am telling you is a very summarized and simple explanation of everything I have planned so far). I can see myself being able to start a small firm and either find a way to sell it and start a larger one or grow it large.

I mean, you don't have to be rich to start a successful company. Look at many of the great entrepreneurs that made it big ludicrously quick off of just their ideas alone. I am not saying I will get the same luck they had with my ideas, but I believe my ideas, knowledge, and expertise will ultimately carry my business idea from just a concept into a full fledged successful firm (and hopefully someday a corporation).

Though if you have any friendly advice, I would love to hear it. As previously stated, I am here to learn more than anything.

Naw. I am cool with sharing general concepts.

Pretty much I have ideas ranging from when I was a child all the way up until now. A lot of it is military technology (because I went through a phase where I loved guns and everything having to do with the military, plus I know how much the military gets for a budget per year). Some ideas incorporated using carbon fiber, toxins/chemicals, and synthetic diamonds in weaponry/armor. It sounds silly, but honestly, if you can start several production facilities for both the carbon fiber and synthetic diamonds (the lab created diamonds) you could make a mint off of it alone, let alone using it as raw materials for military technology. I was thinking recently into looking up the possibility of forging a synthetic diamond and carbon fiber type of alloy (using other materials and agents to help the bonding process). The idea was creating the perfect armor. Of course, because I gave up on my dream of becoming an engineer to chase business ventures, I leave all of these ideas in a journal for future use. No matter how impossible certain ideas seem now, I am sure with a little bit of brain power (along with technology catching up to your ideas) I can turn these concepts into a reality (even if they aren't the exact same as the original idea).

My life long dream is creating either a form of heaven on Earth (using Neuro-sciences mixed with computer technology in a form of an internet) or to create a form of immortality (through synthetic or biological means). You can laugh at these ideas, but I believe I was born in the perfect era, because these technologies are right in my grasp, and I want to get successful enough to be the forefront pioneer on these projects.

I think you should focus on an artstyle with different themes per se.

Say you wanna make some realism western artwork with a fantasy/ scifi feel. do it.

If you want an anime style, do the same thing with the themes.

Children's book illustration is pretty straight forward and 2d animations as well.
