Get a 12 gauge shotgun. Having perfect aim is not a requirement. Many ammo types to use as well so you get a nice selection. I got a tactical model myself, so its more manageable. For non lethal but still packs a wallop go for the rubber ball shells. For putting a nice hole in something go for the 00 buck slug. (punch a hole in a car door with it). So some models of the cap and ball revolvers can be converted to fire cased ammunition by changing the cylinder out. I believe that is what this is referring to.
