So I work in a contact center for Bank of America and they offer tuition reimbursement. I recently took a college entry exam and aced it so I've decided to go.

The only stipulation is, my program of study has to pertain to my current job. The only approved majors are finance, accounting, statistics, human resources management, and IT/networking.

Which would be the best to go for out of these? I'm 23 and have never attended university but I'd like to get a degree and move up on the corporate ladder and maybe make enough to buy my own home and car.

I'd go for one of accounting, stats or finance. Ideally statistics, because its probably the most broadly applicable and shows you can handle a difficult course. Take some courses from the other 2 in addition, to round off your skills and make them applicable.

It will probably also give you some functional programming skills, which is a plus.

I was thinking either statistics for finance personally, because finance is personally the most interesting, but my best subject has always been math.

My uni adviser actually suggested a finance major and filling my elective slots with mathematical finance and economics courses, because it'd be applicable in a banking setting.

Choose your major based on what type of jobs Bank of America offers in your area. Getting a stats degree won't help if the quantitative jobs are on the other side of the country, or vice versa.

I was in a similar situation years ago. Only I had a bullshit liberal arts degree and took mba classes. Its gonna be a tough grind until you finish, but I managed to escape call center hell. I worked for an insurance company whose corporate offices were located in a different are. I was always interested in equities, so I knew I'd have to jump ship at some point.

What were the necessary steps to go about this? I want to get an MBA eventually, and also have a useless lib arts degree, but I have no idea where to go from here.

Well right now almost all of the openings in my area are for loan officers, credit analysts, internal auditors, and risk managers. That could change by the time I graduate though.

Oh man, if only banks operated this way (as in, it tried to project the needs of the economy as well as likelihood of delinquency as factors for acceptance / terms / interest rate)

If you are a white male, I wouldn't recommend HR because companies would prefer to hire a woman or an ethnic minority in order to project a good image.

inb4 >>>/pol/. I'm speaking as a guy who has worked for a large bank for 10 years. I have never met someone from HR that was a white dude

One doesn't just "become" an actuary nigga.

You have multiple exams you need to pass before you can even get an entry-level job.

Senior HR people are usually male in large corporations... This is usually due to lateral moves though.

Do IT and fuck the networking part. If you're going to a college with a legit IT program, you can go just about anywhere. I thought that wasn't true until a couple of people two years above me got Google and Apple internships.
