From what I understand, Reserve Protocol will stabilize the price of their main coin by taking that coin in and out of circulation. When it's out of circulation, holders of Reserve Rights Token can purchase those tokens with their RSR.

Given that the main token will be pegged to the dollar, you might expect RSR to stabilize around one dollar. Hence, for a 1 cent investment today, you can buy a dollar when Reserve Token goes live.

Where am I wrong?

The key benefit to holding RSR is that it enables participants to profit through arbitrage opportunities whenever the value of RSV is trading above $1.00 on exchanges. Arbitrage is defined as the simultaneous buying and selling of an asset in different markets in order to take advantage of price discrepancies. The same principle applies to decentralized ecosystems and has been driving much of the trading volume in stablecoin markets.

Here is a brief overview of how RSR arbitrage trading works: When RSV is trading above $1.00 on exchanges, any excess RSV tokens in this pool can be purchased from the Reserve smart contract by RSR holders exclusively for $1.00 worth of RSR.

For example, say RSV was trading at $1.02. In this scenario, participants could buy $1.00 worth of RSR on an exchange. If there is excess RSV in the Reserve vault, RSR holders could then use the $1.00 worth of RSR to purchase the stablecoin through Reserve’s smart contract. Once in possession of RSV, these token holders could go back to an exchange and sell the RSV at market price, making a profit of two cents per token.

Other assets that are held by the Reserve smart contract in order to back the value of the Reserve token, similar to when the US government used to back the US dollar with gold. The protocol is designed to hold collateral tokens worth at least 100% of the value of all Reserve tokens. Many of the collateral tokens will be tokenized real-world assets such as tokenized bonds, property, and commodities. The portfolio will start off relatively simple and diversify over time as more asset classes are tokenized.

There are three planned phases of the Reserve network:
>The centralized phase
where Reserve is backed by a small number of collateral tokens, each of which is a tokenized US dollar.
>The decentralized phase
where Reserve is backed by a changing basket of assets in a decentralized way, but still stabilized in price with respect to the US dollar.
>The independent phase
where Reserve is no longer pegged to the US dollar, with the intent of stabilizing its real purchasing power regardless of fluctuations in the value of the dollar.

It's a quiet almost covert hold. Think about the markets they are targeting, places like Venezuela, Panama, etc then read about global crypto demand and why...particular markets, combined with particular regulatory environments, and hardly anybody in crypto is asking why. Why do we (those into crypto) know about tiny little islands like Malta and the benefits of living in Singapore? Can South Americans even afford crypto? Read the whitepaper anon, do your own research and you will know why and you will see just what Reserve is doing and how they are going to get there.
