But for real if anyone thinks that everything is fake they're suffering from legit autism. A diamagnetic test + proper dimensions basically nukes any chance for a coin to be fake since it's almost impossible to fake something that accurately and still be profitable.

You better be heavily involved with coins before I'll even begin to take your word for anything, really. Cause you talk a lot about amazing fakes and iirc you said you trade coins yet you provide no evidence of them existing and then say that they're just making them out of real material now, which is nonsensical for counterfeits. It's definitely not worth using as an investment though because of how easily the market is manipulated. Okay that's starting to make more sense. VG 10s would be easier to fake since they have considerably poorer details. I hadn't seen you post this before.
>and identical flat gray toning with light highlights
Please post an example so I can get a better idea of what this looks like.

Now I have reason to believe you because that's offering details. Fortunately my coin isn't at that grade so I'm not concerned, but I can definitely see how you'd start to see the pattern.
>>23566056
That makes sense
>>23566088
That's what I was getting at! They have a band of toning with the inner details being considerably brighter than anywhere else on the coin. Is that the obvious homogeneity you're referring to? Because I can absolutely agree with that.

part of it

the other part is details. I mean the odds of them selling multiple circulated coins with exactly the same wear and details is almost impossible.

they're identical because they're using the exact same die pattern for each year and mint mark, just changing the dates and marks.

they're pretty good fakes. The ones struck in actual silver anyways. The coin I posted a pic of is silver plated brass I believe. So the weight and measurements are off on the plated ones. But the silver version is pretty close to being right.

Now that's making some sense. Is there any database that demonstrates the similarity of the details? Or, alternatively, could you try to get a photo of one sometime? It sounds like these are relatively easy to identify if you know what you're looking for. I think the one coin I was concerned about is good to go since it doesn't have the same dramatic toning difference and is a higher grade than VG 10, but I'd like to learn more to identify them in the future.
Are there any other prolific fakes of note, or should a unfucked coin of a higher grade be more-or-less okay?

Sorry for being a dick anon but you just gotta explain these things.

>> No.23566280

>>23566197
No, I've seen multiple die patterns coming overseas, and they're selling millions of these things every month so it'll take years or maybe decades to catalogue what they're doing.

I don't have one on hand, I just see them offered for sale sometimes and refuse to buy. I've seen a couple morgans and a couple capped busts and a handful of ASE's on /pmg/ that look at first glance like the chinese fakes though, so I expect they're entering secondary markets and getting into people's collections.

>> No.23566300

>>23566197
>it doesn't have the same dramatic toning difference and is a higher grade than VG 10,
they're making higher grades, I've seen VF and BU coins.

the toning varies because it's applied by hand, but it's always gray wax with lighter highlights.

>> No.23566331

>>23566280
I'm surprised that they can output millions each month but I guess that's how it is.
But, either way, they have a very similar style of VG 10, low/high toning basically all the time eh?

I had the 1889-O from a few threads ago and I doubt it's in poor enough condition to be a VG 10 based on the photos I see online for Morgan grading, it also doesn't have the low/high difference and is pretty toned across the entire thing. That was my largest concern, and the day I got it I took it to a coin boomer who said it was legit, and that's why I was so irate about you not explaining it a bit more (or me missing it) because I didn't want to be Chink'd

the wear pattern and highlights in your toning looked like the fakes to me. What was it, a VF-20?

I don't know that it's fake, and if the coin guy says it's legit I'm sure you're fine. It just looked like fakes I've seen is all. Some real coins actually look like that. They're doing a very good job of copying real circulated coins.

>> No.23566386

>>23566335
They're not as common as the anon suggests.

most here buy from reputable dealers and that's all you need to guarantee it's not fake. If it every turns out to be fake you can return it. Same goes for ebay, but there you run the risk of not finding out it's fake until years later and they won't give you money back years later.

>> No.23566426

>>23566361
It wasn't graded but VF 20 or one grade below would be my guess.
If it's at least an unobvious fake then I'll accept that and learn my lesson. The toning is pretty consistent with no massive difference like the example you posted or the other fakes I saw.
Coin guy (who's apparently been at this for >2 decades) said it was legit pretty quickly after seeing it which is why I was a bit concerned but I didn't want to question his judgment. Again, if it's not an obvious fake, I'll let it rest.

Anyway thank you for talking more about how to ID the bad coins. I'll be sure to, at the very least, avoid the toned memes and stay away from eBay when it comes to more commonly faked coins.

I've seen AG-G morgans (decent) and draped bust dollars (obvious fakes). Both for sale on ebay for a little above spot.

the bigger question is how often they get bought. An AG morgan is scrap unless it's a key date, but an AG Draped Bust Dollar is worth about $1000 US right now, so it might become a problem. Bigger problem is you can't sell a fake except as scrap, so you'd need to tell the buyer it's fake or maybe deface it per US law to sell it.

How many of you follow TA?
A couple linefags yesterday were insisting we buy a "dip" that's now a dollar more than today's spot price.

Guys and coomers especially love qt grills.
Everyone loves qt animals.

Is getting coins with either on them a foolproof strategy for ensuring a decent premium down the road?

>> No.23573067

>>23572870
Anybody telling you to buy yesterday was gambling on the idea that the upper resistance would be broken before the lower support.
TA is not meant to be used as a crystal ball. It is meant to be used to gage where price movements are likely to occur, and what prices are likely to provide support or resistance.
I personally am a breakout trader so I would have recommended you wait until a resistance or support is broken. If upper resistancr, buy immediately. If lower support, wait until a hefty dip then buy. Now is the time to wait for buying, or to DCA in.

I do the same, more often after lower support breaks than riding leg ups. That's always been my gut instinct.
