You guys are thinking small. You can do a lot with 500 mill. Assuming a constant rate of 5% interest on capital (conservative!), that's 25 million a year to spend.

You can bankroll organizations, promote voices, buy influence. It's not a huge amount but it can make a difference in a lot of places. You could inflict serious harm on even powerful organizations with that much money. Private investigators, lawfare...
