What the heck is a PoW coin?

How is it different to a PoS coin?

proof of work - transactions are verified by throwing a fuckton of computing power at them, ie mining.

proof of stake - the wallet/node that generates a new block (and hereby verifies the transactions submitted since the last block generation) is selected at random from all currently turned on wallets possessing coins (the more coins you have, the more likely you'll be picked to make a block). the reward for the block may go to whoever makes the block or be split between everybody as an interest. i think individual coins implement it differently.

in the first case, in order to attack the network, you need a >50% share of its computing power, even for a short amount of time. then you can refuse transactions from being confirmed, even reverse transactions (and be able to spend same coins twice or more). in order to do this, you can rent mining rigs, you can make a pool and have others give you the hashing power for free, you can make a multipool and then point the unsuspecting miners at any low-hashrate currency you want, etc.

in order to do the same for a proof of stake coin, you'd
need to possess >50% of all coins in existence, which is obviously a lot more expensive than renting a bunch of rigs for a couple of hours.
plus once you own 50% of the coin's entire market cap, destroying it is kinda counterproductive.

The beatuful thing with GPU mining is that, fixed a kh/s (adjusted for power cost), your ROI is in a fixed time (say 60 days).

i spent over a fucking year trying to get any mining software except guiminer working. turned out to be a hardware problem in the end. i gave up and mined ltc for the entirety of 2013 using it. lost like 1/4 of the coins i'd have got... One you're there you need to register first, then login.
Then you will be presented with a default layout. You can change that as you see fit, but REMEBER TO SAVE your layout with every change (floppy button, top right).

There is ONLY ONE FUNCTION that kinda works, and that's "charts". You can display as many as you want, in whatever size you want. Add them with top right menu, then set your trading pair with the "cog" button on the chart. There are some 300 trading pairs, all alctual live data from Swisscex.
