Why when I try to swap tokens or try to move tokens from hardware to metmask account it doesn't let me approve on the ledger? It works once every 20 times. I have to exit out of Chrome and when I go back into Chrome it says it didn't work and that there was probably a problem with the sign up stage or something.

Where do they even get your email? Never had to enter one to use it

Still if you are buying a device and do not have one, buy a Trezor unless you need XLM/XRP and a few others that the cheap Trezor doesn't support; or just stop being poor and buy the $160~ Trezor which is infinitely better than any other option

search up ledger email hack
1 million email addresses got leaked, meaning the pajeets can now spam you with shitcoin ads.

ledger also doesn't have the best track record security wise, someone figured out how to trick people into thinking they were sending 1 LTC when they were sending 1 BTC in reality.

Anon I am not doubting the email fiasco and I do agree open source is much better (Trezor) than closed source (Ledger)

I am genuinely asking where are these people inputting their email information, I have yet to see any prompt to request this information? It definitely is not in the initial setup steps, those are as simple as PIN/Seed/Genuine check/Password for Ledger live program. No part of that requires or even asks for an email

Makes sense, I would recommend buying from Amazon then, you would want to confirm it is sold by 'Ledger official' and not try to save a few dollars ending up buying from non genuine seller

Again, I really would encourage Trezor over Ledger but it's worth knowing these negative claims are mostly baseless, aside from closed source vs open source, that should be simple enough for everyone to know which is better based on that alone

Anon i bought a trezor months ago and just yesterday got my ledger nano s. Ledger is a bit weird with tx's on metamask, but the functionality is infinitely better and i feel much safer using it.
If you use metamask at all, youll know that ledger very clearly shows you WHAT address youre interacting with and what you are sending(100 usdc, etc). On trezor, all you get is a meaningless blob saying "send message to 0x90182391301928391273891hsiudhjwiajd yes or no?"

Is correct

The only concern with personal information is that they have supposedly (I do not have a source) have leaked this information in the past or someone has compromised Ledger's database and pulled this information
This would mean someone would know who has and who does not have Ledgers (IE potentially lots of crypto assets), no different than if someone knows that you have a few nice watches or other physical assets that they can prey upon/take

To my best understanding, funds are safe on Ledger and Trezor

Lmao sorry to hear but it sounds like you should try resetting via Ledger live software if you cannot access the device's settings/security/reset all

Ultimately Trezor will do you well, but it has the same firmware situation as Ledger in the sense that you can mess it up or it can glitch for any reason and you will need to figure out how to troubleshoot it

If your device is not acting up due to water damage and you somehow cannot access via Ledger live reset or device reset, it would probably be best to get a hold of Ledger support or even check this boomershooting out/setup Ledger in the software as an uninitialized device/brand new device

I believe you are citing that electrical shorting vulnerability?
If you use a passphrase that negates the potential. Equally think about your common criminal/thief, if they even know what a Ledger or Trezor are, the pin is likely enough for them to 'grug hit with rock' and give up

Everything in life is a compromise and there is always balance. Convenience or security you pick where on the spectrum you feel comfortable and make decisions based on this.

You want most secure failproof? It will not be convenient.
You want convenience? It will not be the most secure option.

Cold paper wallets are the most secure if you have a location that it is hidden and safe from weather/moisture/etc

You could equally create a wallet via Trezor, then wipe the device while recording the seed phrase, stash the seed phrase in a location safe from moisture/fire/theft and have the BTC/ETH/XRP/etc addresses saved somewhere that you can SEND to them without risking connecting that wallet to the internet

Just get a dedicated ssd. You can put a bootable linux os on it and lock down as many encrypted folders for as many things as you like. You can do anything with an ssd that you can do with a hardware wallet. You can hide your data in a massive porn folder for plausible deniability. You can steghide your keys in dahnald memes.

Its superior in every way
