the key is to learn how to live minimalistically. i think i live better than you despite making only $60k/year as an EE technician in my 30's still living with my parents. even before covid, i was only probably putting in 4-5 hours of work a day out of an 8 hour work day, on average. some days less some day more depending on how busy or how slow work got, it's kind of a workshop of sorts, where i work in a lab and engineers come to me when they need PCB boards assembled or need to sign out equipment or have shit set up for them for tests or whatever. it's how i got into day trading as a way to pass the time and make some extra money on the side, it's also how i learned programming since i had the free time at work. it's also how i got into walking a lot as exercise since i had the down time to do so and took advantage of it and my boss didn't give a fuck since i got my work done consistently and everyone there loves me because im a good guy.

I find it fundamentally impossible to live with my parents. I love them, but my dad is contagiously depressed, my mom is slowly going crazy for reasons I cannot control, and their house is the polar opposite of the kind of living modalities I enjoy. It makes me feel constrained. I was living on my own for 3 years but due to COVID I returned home for my final year of university.
