Every set over the last 3 years has been poorly received, so Hasbro has opted to alienate hardcore fans in favor of putting out gratuitously expensive exclusive cards to target whales. I'm pretty sure they see the writing on the wall that exploitative gacha games are eating their lunch, and are trying to change their model to target spending addicts. A lot of mtg people are pretty bearish on the game's future. What that means though is that the new sets are all really cheap right now, while old nostalgia cards have held their value. Almost like a reverse contango kinda situation, everyone's bullish on old cards bearish on new. I want to sell all my old cards while they're still pricey, I feel like there could be a big crash in value a la the sports card crash of the 90s :(
