Basically the rich people in NYC already made their wealth elsewhere and then moved there for status and fun (like the Russians, Chinese, etc). You don't move to NYC to "make it" anymore, small businesses operate on razor thin margins and constantly go out of business while 99% of wagies toil away in perpetuity failing to set anything aside due to their $2k rent payments.

My work has taken me to Chicago, Seattle, Portland, and currently Denver. All were absolutely shit to live in, the people I worked with and met were so totally caged in wagie NPCs with no unique thoughts in their head. Literal drones.
My two best friends are both from small towns and lived there until recently and are way more alive, thinking, and feeling than the garbage people I meet.

OP, have you ever considered the benefits of living in close proximity to nature? Do you know that living in a city increased your chance of death by a large percentage? No fresh air, no fresh food, noise pollution and technology pollution. The social conditioning and programming of the city is so far from anything natural or good that it will deteriorate your being overtime. Most people who have chosen to not live in a city it's because they love nature. Roaming the forest. Growing their own food. Looking up at the galaxies and stars at night. Having peace of mind and quiet. Looking out at the vast open of nature and living in tune with the universe.

There really isn't many cities I'd live in honestly. Maybe Tokyo and some eastern European ones, but only for a year or two.
