Silver virgin here, how do you invest in silver/gold in a reasonable way? Looking at coins and bars they sell for a premie as high as the metal value. Basically a coin cost twice its weight in pure metal. At this speed you need to hold for 15 years just to break even. Are you guys doing that or is there any way around this?

where are you shopping?
yes, premiums are high but double is an absolute scam
lurk /pmg/ a while and you'll see that a lot of anons have strategies to maximize bang/buck
meanwhile go to one of the dealers in the OP and get a couple or a few American Silver Eagles, or some constitutional 'junk' silver.
You want to dollar cost average into this stuff anyway.

You need a bit of variety, but buying new is tge most safe & most sought after.
200 silver oz for every 1oz of gold.
For every 5oz bar/coint you need 20oz of 1 oz coin/bar
For every 10oz bar you need two 5oz bar/coin & 40 single oz bar/coin.

2oz & 3oz bars/coins are valuable only in high quality in my opinion...why? Because the premiums are typically lower the more you buy & become easier to manage in trade so ling as you have enough to hold & trade/sell without breaking you one way or the other.

People look down upon silver going below even 1oz mintings due to premiums, but there's still those that will even buy down to a single gram or more likely than not 1/10th of an ounce in high quantity for trade and payment purposes only like junk silver.

Ensure you have junk silver for daily transactions if/when the colapse happens.
2 used mercury dimes = 1 days wage/expenses for a single person.

Both junk silver & and anything fragrional below 1oz silver bars/coins should only be regarded as a means of society colapse/fiat colapse day to day currency.

There hold pile...
The currency day to day pile...
And the sell for gains pile...
Most anons as myself never want to sell their silver...ever.

>At this speed you need to hold for 15 years just to break even. Are you guys doing that or is there any way around this?

Welcome, what country are you in? Even in the USA it varies by state and some people must pay sales taxes on numismatic and bullion purchases.

If you let us know where you are we can help point you to the right dealers, in the USA 90% silver old
constitutional coins are among the cheapest per ounce worth of silver, at least when purchased at a local coin store.

Lots of strategies to get cheap Silver, some people cruise yard sales and estate sales for coin collections and sterling, some search eBay (and dusty coin shop shelves) for obscure uncirculated or proof sets priced below spot value of the silver coins, some go metal detecting for it which is lots of fun, and I've been an ambassador of scrapping and refining junk antique silver items.

What even most stackers don't seem to get is the fundamental monetary nature of silver regardless of form, and then how one sources in "inefficient markets" where perceived values are more malleable and arbitrary, such as the antique and collectible market, for cheap unrecognized unappreciated silver items containing much more than the asking price worth of silver.

When you collect silver from "inefficient markets" below spot value, it is then easy to get it refined into bullion which transforms the silver into something that automatically now fetches "efficient market" bullion prices (plus premiums too if you retail yourself) and is recognized and exchangeable globally. My refined returned silver costs less than 20/Ozt total currently which is basically like minting money, it's pretty cool. Plenty of ways to get cheap Silver, just takes extra work fren.

You need to understand that debt is just another form of credit. When somebody defaults on their debts, that credit vanishes, causing deflation. What causes inflation is when the Fed responds to this deflation by printing more money to sustain the economy and stop it from crashing.

the beautiful thing is that either mass inflation or deflation is good for PM's. if we get deflation, the whole economic system will come tumbling down real quick, because its a usurist debt based hyper consumption machine that need a constant inflow of liquidity. To stop this, the government(s) have to print excess money and inject it into the system(inflation) to keep it alive. This increases prices nominally but in reality confidence is lost and capital flight takes place causing real values to plummet. If you are hedged against economic collapse right now, you cant lose.

>When someone defaults on their debts, the loaned money stays in circulation. Paying back loans is deflationary, not defaulting on debt.
That is irrelevant. The money is in circulation regardless of whether it's loaned or not. The borrower is expected to create value for the lender over time in order to pay back the debt and the interest.
>>23191413
Money supply isn't increased when a loan is created. It creates credit, as debt is another form of credit.
What's important is that credit is created when money is loaned away, and that credit disappears when
1) the debt is paid along with the interest
2) the debt is defaulted

People can't pay their debts during a deleveraging when central banks can't lower interest rates any more (0% interest rates) to control the economy. People cut their spending, businesses go down because money isn't getting exchanged, no new loans are given because banks are concerned that they won't get their money back, interest rates start going up, asset prices (like real estate, equities) go down as demand decreases and badly indebted people desperate sell their assets to repay debts.
When people can't afford to pay their debts, there are either inflationary or deflationary ways to deal with the debt problem. The deflationary ways are: cutting spending; defaults and debt restructures; redistribution of wealth. And the inflationary way is to print more money.

Because deflation would spiral and crash the economy the Fed just chooses to inflate the economy with inflation by buying even more government bonds, inflating the debt bubble and postponing the crash. Just look at the current situation: people have lost their jobs and income and are forced to spend less. Some can't pay for their debts. This is deflationary and could crash the economy, so the Fed has been printing money hyperaggressively this year.

We need a pic anon or else we can't make a proper judgement. My opinion though, fuck the shit out of her, 40 year old milfs are horny as fuck and have probably already done everything so doing it for her boy toy will just serve to make herself wet. Do not abuse the situation but figure out a way to take payment for your services without it being so much like prostitution, more like some gifts but don't be like those gold digger whores. If she is sexy , take her out with her money , show her off, shit fuck her in public or whatever makes her pussy drip. But do not expect it to last forever, either she will want things to change from this way eventually and want more or you will grow tired of her. But a 40 year old milf who wants to spoil her boy toy could be a fun time for a few years. But try to explain the situation to her, do not be a gold digging whore

I'm combing through federalreserve.gov hoping to learn things.
I think I knew, but forgot: the Fed Reserve holds collateral for all the dollars in circulation. In other words, yes the dollar is actually backed by something.
Most of this collateral is in the form of Treasury bills. Which means that the dollar is backed by US Treasury bills, which are claims on dollars that have been loaned to the US Treasury.
So, in theory you could go to the Fed Reserve to redeem your dollar, and in return (effectively) get an IOU that says the US Treasury owes you a dollar.
And you could take that dollar back to the Fed Reserve, etc.
But you can be comforted to know that the Fed apparently holds about $11B in gold.

That 11 billion in gold was what was confiscated in 1933, and do remember that the fed is privately owned. After it was confiscated it was determined that the US government does not own that gold, but the fed does as collateral against the national debt.
Furthermore, I highly recommend a book or source of information that is not written by the fed, as the fed has it in its best interest to feed you bullshit economic theories that make you think a privately owned central bank is necessary.
I recommend the creature of jekyll island, although there are more books than just this one.
The dollar is backed by debt as money is out into circulation when either the fed buys government bonds (they print money to do this and then expect it to be paid back with interest) and fractional reserve lending (printing money to lend to people)

I suppose it depends which money supply you take (M1, M2, etc.). Because all the fed can do is create bank reserves. Then it is up to the banks to use those reserves to lend money. When it comes to the real economy once the money is lended by a bank to a company or an individual it can be spent in exchange for goods or services. If you repay the debt you're effectively giving the bank its money back by taking them out of circulation and while they may pocket the interest, they have those money ready for another loan. If you don't repay the debt then that money permanently stays in circulation.

Again that's just my understanding and I'm not claiming to be competent.

>> No.23194092

This is correct. I was also not trying to say that defaulting on a debt is inflationary; just that it is not deflationary.

Yes I'm familiar with all these things.
I was more interested in what assets the fed is buy more recently. As in since Feb.
There's been a discussion on the last few /pmg/s about inflation/deflation and I've become curious about the exact location of the "money" that the fed has produced since the bologna virus was released.
But I had forgotten or was unaware of the mandated collateral that the fed is supposed to hold against fed notes (dollars).
I was amused by the recombinant financing where every dollar is backed by an IOU for another dollar.
And therefore my previous post.
It's easy enough to say that the dollar is backed by debt, or that the fed is printing money, but I like to know what things mean. Especially if I'm going to talk or post about the things. I hate to talk out my ass, even if I don't get caught.

if you want decent buys look at a listing like this one that I linked below. Usually the 2 terms to search are "world coin silver lot" or "foreign coin silver lot" - visit the NGC world catalog I have listed below. Look up the coins- the search bar is better than the manual search- and look at the ASW- it will usually be a fraction of a number, .1, .35, etc. That is how many Troy Ounces of silver are in the coin. NGC is also nice enough that it gives you the exact up-to-date melt value of the coin(except pajeet and abdul type coins typically) So if you are bored and have time look at a few lots and determine the ASW of it. Usually if it's just junk stuff you can land it 10-15% below or maybe a little above melt (still better than the rape premiums charged for government issue rounds). It's very easy to do as long as the pictures are decent. I accumulated probably 50-60 oz that way when I was younger.
The one caveat I would say is try to buy higher purity if at all possible- this will ensure when you part with it at some point you get more for your money.

1) I have 2.1oz gold, 81oz silver. Should I pickup some more today? Or do you think we'll get another dip? How often do you DCA into PMs? Quarterly? Monthly? How should I schedule it?

2) I saw JPM was fined for placing spoof orders in precious metals. What is the implication of that for us? Did we get tricked into thinking there was more demand than there is?

3) When I buy Asahi rounds there is typically some space at the top of those plastic things that each 20 count goes in, and they can flop around when moving. What do you guys stuff those with to stop it?

You probably dont even have money to spend on silver to notice any major difference in the amount of silver you can buy if prices "dip" 1 or 2 dollars.

You just missed your dip. Silver went from $29 to $21 couple weeks ago. Ultimately its like people who had the chance to buy Amazon stock when it was $250 asking if they should wait for a dip before buying...Amazon stock right now is like $2500

Use toilet paper or paper towel to fill the gap. If you are worried about the chemicals that make it white, cut up an old cotton t shirt. Idk

But maybe they come cheaper because of all that. In which case they might be a good buy.
Junkwise, I think Barber quarters, Franklin and Barber halves and Merc dimes are prefered. Standing lib quarters, Washington quarters and morgan or peace dollars come next. I don't know how the premiums on these are right now, so you'll have to do the math.

Hey, scrapsperg here, that looks promising, ugly dark tarnished items are a good sign (plated stuff is often tarnished in an attractive iridescent spectrum). Looks like Mexican or South American stuff so if it's sterling it will be stamped STERLING or Plata 925 or something pretty unambiguous on the bottoms of each piece. Hard to say how big/heavy it is, it might just be a small "bachelor's" set but should still be 700+ grams of sterling, maybe up to 1.5 kg if it's bigger than it appears. Whatever the case, if that's all sterling then $100 is a crazy good deal so good luck, try to check it out early, and please report back if you're successful.

I'm pretty sure you can sell off all the coins. The new dollar coins issued are pretty much junk and little better than one dollar bills.

That said, you should carefully do some research on any key dates for the coins. I know that there is a variant of the Sacagawea dollar that is actually worth a lot of money. They were the coins that were inserted into select boxes of Cheerios cereal. I think the only way those coins would have numismatic value, though, is if you have the unopened box of Cheerios with the Sacagawea dollar prize in it or if you have a coin that was verified by one of the major coin grading agencies as having been from a box of Cheerios.

To the best of my knowledge, none of the Susan B. Anthony dollars are worth more than face value.

History lesson time!

Executive Order 6102 required all persons to deliver on or before May 1, 1933, all but a small amount of gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates owned by them to the Federal Reserve in exchange for $20.67 (equivalent to $408 in 2019)[5] per troy ounce. Under the Trading with the Enemy Act of 1917, as amended by the recently passed Emergency Banking Act of March 9, 1933, a violation of the order was punishable by fine up to $10,000,(equivalent to $198,000 in 2019)[5] up to ten years in prison, or both.

The order specifically exempted "customary use in industry, profession or art," a provision that covered JEWLERS

History lesson time (continued) !

1. Coinage Act of 1873
The Coinage Act of 1873 or Mint Act of 1873, 17 Stat. 424, was a general revision of the laws relating to the Mint of the United States. In abolishing the right of holders of silver bullion to have their metal struck into fully legal tender dollar coins, it ended bimetallism in the United States, placing the nation firmly on the gold standard. Because of this, the act became contentious in later years, and was denounced by some as the "Crime of '73".

2. Gold Standard Act
The Gold Standard Act of the United States was passed in 1900 (approved on March 14) and established gold as the only standard for redeeming paper money, stopping bimetallism (which had allowed silver in exchange for gold). It was signed by President William McKinley.

3. Bretton Woods sytem
The Bretton Woods system of monetary management established the rules for commercial and financial relations among the United States, Canada, Western European countries, Australia, and Japan after the 1944 Bretton Woods Agreement. The Bretton Woods system was the first example of a fully negotiated monetary order intended to govern monetary relations among independent states. The chief features of the Bretton Woods system were an obligation for each country to adopt a monetary policy that maintained its external exchange rates within 1 percent by tying its currency to gold and the ability of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to bridge temporary imbalances of payments.

4. Nixon Shock
The Nixon shock was a series of economic measures undertaken by United States President Richard Nixon in 1971, in response to increasing inflation, the most significant of which were wage and price freezes, surcharges on imports, and the unilateral cancellation of the direct international convertibility of the United States dollar to gold

20k worth of .1 carat cloudy stones cut by a blind monkey with two left hands is work a lot less than 20k worth of 5-10 carat stones of flawless clarity and perfect cleavage.

>but now I understand that a lot of listings have the weight in the description and the value can be estimated that way

A very useful tip when you encounter something promising lacking a stated weight is to see if there is a manufacturer and model number stamped on it, then you can search "sterling Empire 232" for example and locate other active or completed listings for the exact same item, but hopefully with a precise weight or at least measurements to extrapolate from. Same for silverware, if you see a juicy looking 8.5" spoon with no weight stated, searching "sterling Wallace Rose Point (design) serving spoon" for example would likewise probably turn up listings where the weight for the same item is given. More obscure items may require google searching, but it's not hard.

I took debt on in my life and always paid it back as my absolute top priority. My now ex-wife did not share this philosophy and racked up credit card debt to the point I had to file a Chapter 7 with my divorce.

The good thing being, now I really am debt free and can stack silver, invest, do whatever is necessary to never borrow a red cent again from anybody. I am truly free.

The domestic measures aren't the only thing that matters. Central bank hyperinflation of currency bases is always front run by the forex market. You would see hyperinflation in imports far before any macro-fischer bullshit would tell you that we are seeing inflation.

>> No.23202329

>>23202249
Although I will concede that if Central Banks turned off the monetary spigots today we would indeed crash into deflation so hard it would make the great depression look like child's play due to the severely low velocity of money and record savings rates. There is absolutely zero political will to turn off the spigots however, not in the US, not in China, not in Japan or in Europe. Deflation is much more painful to the (((bankers))) than inflation ever could be so inflation is what we'll get.

>> No.23202427

My understanding is that a huge % of that money entering the supply is being used to prop up the bond market. The government is buying up corporate and BBB bonds with zero discrimination. Also 3 and 5 year bonds are being pegged, I'm not sure about 10 or 30 year bonds. The money entering the "real" spending economy is only offsetting the money leaving it because people are out of work. All this info is from people way smarter than me and I'm sure I'm butchering the fuck out of the explanation.

Jeffry Gundlach is worth listening to on this topic. I'm sure he does a much better job than I.

'''they''' will never allow prolonged deflation because it would send the whole house of cards tumbling down real quick. The system needs a constant injection of money and debt. It's quite literally a Ponzi scheme, only they have the authority to print money and keep the scheme alive indefinitely. So nominal prices will continue to inflate but capital flight will take place into sound alternatives as faith is lost in the system.

So, yes, deflation is what would happen if there was no government intervention, but no one should be naive enough to think that will be allowed to happen

>> No.23202620

>>23202402
No clue man. TA only helps you see what is likely to happen in the immediate future. When old resistances are broken and new ones are formed, new TA comes into play. What I can tell you is that if it breaks those lines in one direction, the move in that direction will be violent. There are two main types of traders: resistance traders and breakout traders.
Personally I think silver will be on an uptrend for quite some time. But thats not based on TA, just macro fundamentals.

In regards to it breaking 30, I do believe that with the retracement from 27 to 22 and the current fundamentals that there is a very high likelihood of this current uptrend breaking 30 without a significant retrace. But please take that opinion lightly I could very well be totally wrong.

You are right. Money printing is inflationary and is used to combat against deflation, which at this point would be the natural direction for the markets due to increased prices, overleveraging and lack of jobs. But instead of letting the market crash and resolve the problem itself (painfully) the central banks choose to print money and postpone the problem for later, making the inevitable crash even worse

The fed doesn't create money, it creates bank reserves. And just because bank reserves are created doesn't mean any new cash is circulating in the economy. There are 2 ways money can circulate in the economy:

1) Member banks can buy treasuries to give loans to the government which is as good as fiat since the government doesn't have to pay it back (technically they do but in reality they don't). The fed delivers reserves to the member banks in exchange for the treasuries, and it's up the congress to actually spend the treasury's new funds for it to circulate in the economy. As we know, congress/senate is holding up additional stimulus.

2) The fed issues reserves to member banks *in the hopes* that member banks will issue new loans against it. As you can see in pic related, those banks and the entire commercial banking sector in general is not lending.

The reason why the stock market is receiving any of the benefits of the Fed minting reserves is because by directly/indirectly purchasing bank corporate bonds, they are providing capital that is being used to purchase equities/etfs as opposed to being lent into general circulation.

https://www.barrons.com/articles/blackrock-is-biggest-beneficiary-of-fed-purchases-of-corporate-bond-etfs-51591034726

Of course that's just a drop in the bucket. The majority of the reason why the market went through a price recovery is because the Fed convinced the markets that it has taken action to hold up asset prices; the bulk of the buying in the stockmarket was investors playing musical chairs.

There's alot of moving part here. It's not as simple as

>money printer go brrr haha inflation go up
