I think a genuine nazi gold bar would go for hundreds of thousands above spot. Most were melted down then recast by the Swiss to conceal their involvement, and the rest was probably stolen by the Allies or Soviets. There’s probably a few gold bars left in the families of Nazis that fled to South America

Based. I dabble, got fun stuff like Gallium, Elemental Iodine, Calcium Hydride etc stocked up along with gobs of pure APIs which may be useful going forward.

>I was thinking about tantalum, platinum, palladium, silver, and iridium scrap.

I'm a silver scrapper (gold occasionally) and while you could potentially line up sources of PGM scrap it's not plentiful, nor are they monetary metals which is quite relevant now. Definitely some opportunities scrapping palladium though, as some older components used healthy quantities back before the price mooned.

Gold jewelry and other scrap gold (pen nibs are fun) is easy enough to get but I focus almost exclusively on silver now, buying cheap sterling off eBay and getting it refined and returned for less than $20/Ozt total currently.

If funds are more limited than time then it may be lucrative, I've snagged amazing deals but the general rule is to pay $0.50/gram or less for the sterling.

Not even a Jew, but you’d be hard-pressed to make the argument that Nazi Germany was a particularly strong advocate of precious metal currency.

To be fair, very few governments of the past century were. Britain probably had the strongest record overall of supporting precious metals among the Western powers, but after the first war this position was decisively smashed.

I think if /pmg/ has a spiritual homeland, it is probably South Africa. They had circulating gold and silver coins well into the late 1970s, something almost unheard of anywhere else. They also played a role in getting Americans to start buying gold again through their enthusiastic promotion of the gold Krugerrand, which was so successful Congress actually passed a law to specifically curtail it as a result of anti-apartheid activist lobbying (they were worried it was becoming too lucrative for the country).

Pewter. Tin is a relatively valuable (~$9/lb) and especially easy to handle base metal. At 92% tin or higher, pewter items like platters and pitchers weighing several pounds are worth collecting if you find them for a buck or 2 at thrift stores or flea markets. Melt them down, pour 1lb pewter bars then sell them on eBay to toy soldier and trinket casters for $10-12/lb.

Trust me it's pretty slick, most people totally ignore pewter and it adds up fast.

Spending $2K on gold is like a 2 month journey of busting my butt like crazy. I will be breaking 200oz of silver this month. I'm not an ancap, so don't have any problem with government spending on infrastructure which is actually useful, especially when it is kept in check by a gold standard. But Alexander Hamilton believed in protectionist tariffs, high taxation, public debt, and other things which I don't like. I also don't like central banks, and see them as unnecessary. On the other hand, in some ways, Alexander Hamilton is unjustly abused on the internet, because of Greenbackers. He wanted a central bank partly because he wanted to put the U. S. on a gold standard, in other words on a system of sound money. People started to hate central banks because of the Ron Paul Revolution in 2008; and the Greenbackers, attaching themselves to that movement, implied that gold was a part of Hamilton's evil scheme, and that it would be better to go back to a system of Colonial Scrip. They deluded and misled the Ron Paul supporters by doing this; because the Ron Paul was against the Fed because he wanted a return to gold, whereas the Greenbackers want to abolish the Fed simply in order to have Congress print paper money directly, and employ MMT. This would be 100x worse than Hamilton's gold-backed central bank.

In regard to Greenbackers, see https://www.garynorth.com/public/department141.cfm

uranium is a long term play. Basically barring a white swan even where massive progress is made in alternate energies (fusion is more probably then adequate solar for example) then fission is the next few centuries best option for power.

Currently uranium i sold for less than the cost to produce. but it is a lonnnnnnng term play, right now my personal opinion is that we would so early as to basically be "wrong" even though it is fundamentally the right play.

Id say do lots and lots of research now, because uranium is a very esoteric and complicated industry, have some plays planned out well in advance. Just dont expect to make them too soon, and be prepared to hold.

The Chinese (and Italians) do make fake sterling, but it's basically all jewelry. I usually avoid fiddly jewelry anyway as sterling tableware and other antique items are legit and much heavier.

>>23175821
>Are pewter items marked?

Yeah, just like sterling. Pewter items are stamped "pewter" or "xx% Tin" (Or "Zinn" for german pewter) so it's pretty easy. Pewter is a rather distinct and memorable sort of alloy so it's extremely easy to identify even across a room after handling it a bit.

A chief reason why U. S. manufacturing has vanished is actually because of the paper-money system, and the fact that the dollar is the world reserve currency. It's similar to what happened to Spain during the Renaissance, which, after making its gold discoveries in the New World, would send its raw goods to the Netherlands, rather than make use of them itself. There's little incentive for people to manufacture anything in the U. S.; when you have a money-printing machine which can devour the wealth of the world, and run up enormous deficits, why would you? The moral hazard is too great. Further to that, Austrian economists would say that tariffs (along with taxes and regulations) actually hurt manufacturing, and that the tariffs which America already has are a chief cause of its manufacturing loss. You can read the argument for this here:

https://spectator.org/tariffs-a-threat-to-americas-gdp/

Ron Paul, "Tariffs are not the answer": https://www.lewrockwell.com/2018/03/ron-paul/tariffs-are-not-the-answer/

"The biggest cause of our economic problems is the Federal Reserve. America’s experiment with fiat currency has enabled a system based on private and public debt. This makes trade imbalances inevitable as the US government needs foreign investors to purchase its debt. Foreign investors get the money to purchase the US government’s debt by selling products to American consumers. A trade war could cause foreign investors to stop buying US debt instruments and could end the dollar’s world reserves currency status. This would cause a major economic crisis — but at least it would stop our shores from being flooded with "cheap foreign goods.""

https://www.lewrockwell.com/2011/09/gary-north/the-dollar-as-the-world-reserve-currency/

Gary North: "The present system of reserve currencies favors the United States government and American consumers. It is a subsidy to exports to the USA by way of holding down interest rates for U.S. government debt."

I look at their current cash situation, total equity, debt and total liabilities. If the debt-to-equity ratio is high (say, over 70% or even over 100%) I tend to be more careful because when the debt bubble pops that leverage could bankrupt the company. Also, even if they don't have debt but they have more liabilities than equity I also tend to be more vary of investing in them. Cash is always great to have, the more cash they have the more hits they can take. Liquidating equities during a bad financial situation isn't optimal so cash is important.

Income and return for investment are unnecessary for an exploration company because they won't be making profits when there isn't any production going on, but a company can have positive cash flow through financing or investments which are worth checking out. For a company in production it's important to look at their OPEX and compare it to the profits they can make with the mined concentrates, and for a company that's planning to open a mine it's important to see their projected CAPEX for starting production, and follow how well they are able to increase production. Remember to read feasibility studies and other related papers companies release, those are important and usually are able to predict how long a project goes on and how long it takes to pay back for your investment. Metal prices affect profits directly.

If I forgot to add something or got something wrong, somebody please correct me. I'm still kinda new at this too

https://www.lewrockwell.com/2019/09/mike-mish-shedlock/trumps-unwinnable-trade-war-gold-explains-why/

Michael Shedlock: "It is impossible for tariffs to fix problems caused by making the dollar the world’s reserve currency then removing the last constraints on global deficit spending!

If you support Trump’s tariffs as some sort of cure to trade imbalances, please read the above sentence over and over again until it finally sinks in that Trump is on a foolish path.

From 1866 to 1968 the US generally had a trade surplus.

The US had huge trade surpluses during and just after WWI and WWII.

Gold provided an enforcement mechanism against mercantilism, massive deficit spending, and huge government subsidies.

Starting August 15, 1971, when Nixon closed the gold window, there has been no enforcement mechanism.

That’s a problem that tariffs cannot possibly cure.

Nixon said it was “temporary”.

Guess what? It wasn’t.

Tariffs cannot possibly fix this issue.

Tariffs can only make matters worse by increasing costs on consumers and industries.

Trump is barking up the wrong tree, and loudly."

Negative interest rates would effectively just buy more time to the economy that's already running on fumes. Negative interest rates would give central banks the chance to artificially lower interest rates when they already hit 0%, meaning the debt bubble would continue inflating as long as there are people ready to buy aftermarket bonds, and sell them at a profit when interest rates go even more negative. This will go down the same way real estate does: when people aren't willing to pay an exorbitant amount for a bond because they're afraid that a "greater fool" won't then buy it from them.

The debt bubble itself is inescapable because GDP is increasing slower than debt, meaning that the US is essentially paying its debt with more debt. As long as GDP increases slower than debt, the debt cannot be paid for without more debt. The equity market suffers from this and needs stimulus to keep going up so the Fed prints out more money, buys government bonds and that way increases the debt burden while the government injects stimulus with its new money, hot from the presses.

There are effectively negative yields everywhere around the world right now, even if only Japan and Europe have negative interest rates. This is because the yield of 10-year bonds is smaller than the inflation of a currency. This is called "Return Free Risk" and it applies to the U.S. at least, and looking at Canada's yields and inflation rate, it seems it applies to Canada as well. Just lol @ libertarians stuck in the Ron Paul mindset still getting buttmad at keynesianism

The period of Keynesianism (post-war until the early 1970s) was arguably the last time capitalism worked for the average American. After that, financial markets were deregulated, outsourcing was allowed and wages stagnated and wage growth decoupled from increases in productivity.

Yes, Ron Paul was right about a lot of things, but anyone with a brain has since outgrown libertarianism and moved on to the dissident right.

I literally said I don't think a return to keynesianism is feasible. but the fact is that when it was official policy, the system was working for the average american.

> This wasn't keynesianism at all
It literally was. Whether or not you have a gold standard is not the defining feature of keynesianism.

I don't believe in fiat money, that's why I buy gold. But the problem is not keynesianism or "big government", it's hostile elites that have decided that what was once your country is now going to be an economic zone of the global market that will resemble a favela before long in terms of demographics and living standards

So I was going through my change and was able to find some old coins. Do Canadian coins contain silver if they were made in 1968? Or is before 1968? Also the coin on the far right said 1967-1992. Does that mean it was made in 1992?

Dimes and quarters from the year 1967 could be either 80% silver or 50% silver. Dimes and quarters from 1968 could be either 50% silver or 99.9% nickel. It’s easy to test if you have a nickel one or not, nickel sticks to a magnet. As for the 50% vs. 80% silver the only real way to tell is to analyze it with a Niton gun. Oh and nickels made before 1982 are 99.9% nickel and actually worth more in melt value than face value so make sure you keep them

I can talk for hours about Osisko and how they make money but I am honestly not up to date on a lot of the other royalty holders. Osisko has I think 125 operations that they have royalties in, often they spin smaller companies off to operate or manage their own acquisitions, such as what they just did to their Barkerville Gold Project. They buy into projects to generate a revenue stream, build the company up and than if its the right choice buy the project out and operate it themselves. The drilling at and around the Barkerville Gold Project has been insane. Drill holes coming back with multiple cuts of veins grading over half an ounce per tonne and crazy anomalous results like the Cow Mountain Zone hole that produced 6430 grams per tonne over half a meter. The project has had some challenges but now even the community of Wells BC that opposed the project in their back yard are coming to their senses. I forsee BGM becoming one of Canada's premier gold camps again as it was in the 1930s.

No problem anon, also Canadian dollars and half dollars from 1967 and earlier are all 80% silver. Regarding the quarter didn’t you say earlier that it stuck to a magnet? If it sticks to a magnet it’s not silver but rather nickel. The 4 magnetic metals are iron, nickel, cobalt, and gadolinium.

All the ancaps of 2011 turned into evil hitlerites and voted for Trump because we aren't stupid. You cannot have freedom without order. You cannot have free trade when other countries have protectionist policies against you. Protectionism is necessary for self sufficiency, we outsource so much it's a national security risk because we are dependent on foreign powers for the raw materials of our military. Factories don't just start running by flipping a switch. It takes a huge amount of capital and risk, once they're gone, they're gone and with it the skills and knowhow to get them up and running again if enough time lapses. Same deal with pharmaceuticals and food.

I used to be ancap I listened to FreeTalkLive every day. Voted for Ron Paul in 2008 and 2012 primaries. I know just how the gop and the media stole from him any chance of a nomination/fair shake. I wrote him in for president. I bought and read Mary Ruart`s Healing our World. I followed Austrian economics and Tom Woods. Lew Rockwell, strike the root, and Eric Peters autos were my daily internet stops while drinking coffee.
I was knowledgeable about bitcoin when it was 11 cents a piece. I didn't pump money into it or start stacking gold and silver because being a student I just didn't have any money at the time.

Nobody is "redpilling" anybody here. Anyone with half a brain who was smart enough to question the government in their formative years has figured out why there are so many problems with our country and the world. That's why there are so many so-called hitlerites on /pmg/ if youre still stuck in the libertarian craze from 8 years ago youre either an imbecile or you wear a small hat.

>>All the ancaps of 2011 turned into evil hitlerites and voted for Trump

Trump isn't a Hitlerite, and most libertarians voted for Trump in 2016 on principle, not because they changed their views. Peter Schiff voted for Trump. The main reason why Trump succeeded was because there was already an enormous underground patriot movement which preceded him. Infowars, 4chan, all the alt-media blogs and Youtube channels, had already laid the groundwork. If he hadn't come along, somebody else would have done so instead. He talked about the bubble which the Fed was making, he went on Alex Jones's show, he made allusions to 9/11 truth, he spoke about stopping the overseas wars, and mass immigration. There was a general feeling in the air that he was essentially "one of us."

You suggest that, because libertarianism haven't achieved political success, therefore libertarianism is wrong. Well, it's already a lot more successful than Naziism. Naziism required an economic collapse for Hitler to get into power, and then plunged Europe into a war which got ten million Europeans killed. The economic collapse which may sweep libertarianism to power has yet to come. But Naziism is already a proven failure. In fact, it was a failure for the same reason that we are failures. Keynesianism. I choose to adopt the cure, not the disease.

>>23178290

Hitler didn't wield power to the benefit of his people. He caused starvation, shortages, and plunged Europe into the worst war in history. That's what happens under a paper-money system. Paper money enslaves the people, and gives the government unlimited power. It always leads to tyranny and ruin. The people are benefitted by respecting private property rights. All that is necessary is to reintroduce a property qualification for voting, as we had in the 19th century. We didn't need dictators to be successful then, and we didn't need Keynesian paper-money systems. We had gold, liberty, and prosperity.

I haven't seen a single person who defends or even likes in Israel in /pmg/. But to you, anybody who isn't an anti-semite is "JIDF." Even Craig Hemke said a few weeks ago that he would ban anybody from his website on sight for anti-semitism. Is he "JIDF"? Is Sprott JIDF? Is Peter Schiff JIDF? No, they're simply people. Anti-semitism isn't liked by anybody in the Austrian movement. Why would it be? It's part and parcel of the Hitlerite ideology, which scapegoats the Jews to get justification for seizing absolute power. Hitleritism is about the idea that people are too weak to make their own decisions; so any external force which can be used to justify it is useful to it, and none more useful than the anti-semitic conspiracy theory. Gold means that you store your own labour and make your own decisions; Hitleritism is about taking away your gold, and inflating away your labour to make your decisions for you.

>Never called Trump a hitlerite

You wrote, "All the ancaps of 2011 turned into evil hitlerites and voted for Trump because we aren't stupid. You cannot have freedom without order." I interpreted this to mean, "Because Trump is much closer to Hitler, therefore people who support Hitler (which is what a Hitlerite is) decided to vote for Trump." I don't see what other interpretation you can put on that statement. I then refuted you by pointing out that libertarians didn't vote for Trump because of any perceived affinity to Hitler or Hitlerite policies; they voted for him because he seemed to have a lot in common with the patriot movement.

>you suggest that, because libertarianism hasn't achieved political success, therefore libertarianism is wrong
>Weak strawman, I did not say this.

That's how I interpreted this comment: "Voted for Ron Paul in 2008 and 2012 primaries. I know just how the gop and the media stole from him any chance of a nomination/fair shake." It was as if you were saying, "Ron Paul and libertarians never had a chance, so we needed a strongman to get in and sort things out instead."

As for the rest of your post, it's clearly incorrect. As I pointed out earlier in the thread, the reason why America has a weak manufacturing base is because of Keynesianism. It's because of the moral hazard imposed by having the dollar as the world-reserve currency. Manufacturing would return to America if it was on a gold standard again. It had a lot of manufacturing before 1971. See >>23176214 >>23176259. You are supporting the disease rather than the cure.

interesting question

Wiki:

Comparison to Federal Reserve Notes
Both United States Notes and Federal Reserve Notes have been legal tender since the gold recall of 1933. Both have been used in circulation as money in the same way. However, the issuing authority for them came from different statutes.[21] United States Notes are, depending on their issue, redeemable directly for precious metal – as after the specie resumption of 1879 which authorized federal officials to do so if requested. The difference between a United States Note and a Federal Reserve Note is that a United States Note represented a "bill of credit"[clarification needed] and, since it was issued by the government itself and does not involve either lending or borrowing, was inserted by the Treasury directly into circulation free of interest. Federal Reserve notes are not backed either by precious metals or the full faith of the United States government. The privately owned twelve Federal Reserve Banks issue them into circulation pursuant to the Federal Reserve Act of 1913. A commercial bank belonging to the Federal Reserve System can obtain Federal Reserve notes from the Federal Reserve Bank in its district whenever it wishes. It must pay for them in full, dollar for dollar, by drawing down its account with its district Federal Reserve Bank.[21]

Exactly. The prices is only going to go up. You look at about 5 oz of silver right now and it's going to cost anywhere between a 132 167. Now you take that into account with gold the smaller the fraction becomes more affordable yet here we are still smaller amounts. At this rate to 50 silver ounces and possibly to gold ounces are feasible within a year. With that said we all are trying to get out of the city life. And like you also said means of barter trade protection. Even then nothing scaring teed anymore nor was it. The election comes for the United States and so with it the verge of collapse into tyranny.

If that’s actually true then the machine would be literally worthless. All fake gold and silver coins are usually plated base metal. Big bars are usually tungsten plugged with maybe 10% of the stated value of gold actually in them

there's two sides to this coin i fall on the deflation side
inflation requires increase in money supply (which we have) and more importantly increase in velocity of money which we don't
eventually inflation will come which is why im bullish on metals longterm but deflation will hit first

its inflation 100%, when MMT people tout "deflation" they just mean some prices may have gone down, in a sea of rising prices, which is not deflation. The money supply has, is, and only will, go up, which is inflation.
