UNI and STA couldn't be more different.
UNI is a governance token that's really only designed to empower DEX users with partial control over their exhange. Its value is derived from users who want a say in the governance of Uniswap as it continues to grow. I think its a good long-term asset that's still correcting from a massive airdrop dump. Your skepticism of Balancer is certainly warranted. My reasoning (which may be coming from the wrong angle) is that proving STA's derivatives are valuable will increase the value of the token and so on and so forth.
Also, from an optics or marketing standpoint, It's not a particularly ringing endorsement that, out of the ~4500 holders, only 80 are staked in Phoenix. As far as impermanent losses go, I'm willing to eat that in the short-term if it positively impacts the long-term outlook of the project.
