OP here,
Putting the dog down is not an option he's family. And Its a meniscus tear so it's really a quality of life for the dog. It's either we don't get the surgery done and he's crippled in his back leg till the day he dies or we get it done and he's able to run, play and be a normal happy dog.

6k, in the grand scheme of things, isn't a whole lot and, if I'm smart about what I cash out of, will be hopefully recovered by years end.
