My parents just told me that their only retirement is the equity on their house. They can sell it for maybe 250 to 300k. I am so sad about this.

My parents lost everything about 20 years ago and never recovered. It was hell for us at first but today in their 70s, they're honestly the happiest people I know. They still have basically nothing material but couldn't care less. They live well regardless.
