How would you restore Youtube to its former glory or make something better than it?

Less regulation/censorship. YouTube used to have a lot of creative freedom and hosting a video shouldn't mean that you have to agree with its contents.

>1. make a video hosting site
>2. only take down illegal content. nothing else. no gay censorship for saying the N word
that's it. have fun.

Stop associating video content with advertisers. This is the root of the censorship problem. But this won't happen. There will always be stupid fucks thinking a company is evil because it's advert appeared on a video with word "fuck" in it.

As for the content quality: It's insanely easy to produce hours of "videoblog/criticism/opinion/outrage/influencer/reviews/unboxing" content. Basically 1 minute spent on making it translates to 1 minute of the video. And people watch it. On the other hand quality content (like animations) takes hours of work to make 1 minute of content. People watch that too, but it just can't compete. Youtube is destined to be full of shitty content, because people eat it up and it's easy to make.

Don't take advertising money from obvious scams, hire people to actually review scam ads
