So basically I have lost over 5000 dollars this year to scams and rugpulls, I was wondering how the fuck you can claim this as a capital loss so I get a nice refund. I also purchased EVE online accounts on playerauctions with bitcoin and they were banned so I think that would count as a capital loss aswell right? Anyone have any advice? I primarily used coinbase but I also purchased some eth with wyre only about 1k worth I think.

Learn how wash sales work- if you bought back into any of these scams after selling them, you can't write it off.

Also since these are short-term capital losses, you have a cap of 3k you can write off. The other 2k gets rolled over to next year, when you can write it off then.

Pretty much I would come on biz and when everyone was saying how good it is I would have to buy, but everytime I was too late by the time I set up wyre typing in my cc info as quick as I can I lost out and it seems every coin I buy into tanks

If you look at the IRS/Europe/India looking to crack down on such people and the seething it produces from "legitimate traders" on /biz/ you can see a lot of people are probably going to jail or fleeing to another country in the next 5-10 years. Momentary gains by sociopaths that view it as "you believed me so you deserve to get fucked" who will in the long term force massive regulation onto "internet money".

Tokentax.co. it calculates all your taxes from transactions and you can download the forms to send to the IRS. I'm using it and so far its really good.
