In any other system my charisma and self-confidence would be received as charming and indeed I get on a lot better with older people. But in this one it's only interpreted as an authoritarian desire to oppress and exclude women and minorities and abject arrogance (the latter of which I'll concede somewhat). I'm an atheist and I can admit this is true. Religion co-evolved alongside bigger brains as a security blanket against the bleak nihilistic truths about the world that our bigger brains started discovering. It worked for a while but our brains have gotten so big now that the safety blanket doesn't fit anymore. In the absence of a supernatural justification for why you exist and do what you do, people are adopting alternative that are less overtly incompatible with materialism and empiricism, like consoomerism and nationalism, but they also are less effective and fulfilling than a supernatural guarantee that your life means something and that you'll life forever beyond death.

I personally don't think it will get better until we a)solve space travel and offworld colonization and b)defeat death and become immortal.
