ok but actual question here
what happens when people inevitably upload cp on this shit?
wouldnt the owners of the hosting servers be liable?

checked
I still don't get jpeg NFTs. Do people really spend ETH buying this shit instead of just downloading the jpeg from Rarible?

Proof of ownership
Take Mona Lisa, for example. The original painting is priceless, everyone knows that. Sure, you could get a copy of one for $20 or you could have someone paint an imitation for a couple hundred, but doing either of those things doesn't mean you own the original Mona Lisa painting. In the same sense, simply downloading the jpeg NFT doesn't mean you 'own' the original, if that makes sense

Fair enough anon, and I get how it will work in the future for trading cards, etc.
But some of the bullshit jpegs people are supposedly paying $80-$200 for? Kek

hilarious how 1/3 peoples minds on 4chan go to the same thing whenever file hosting is related to blockchain. its been recanted countess times in the past with other projects

Think about the trade in modern art. It's not about the ownership of the piece but the resale value. NFT's are basically ponzis and the loser is whoever is last to hold them

>>22771738
Then you realise that people have just uploaded other peoples works they found off random deviantarts channel. So NFT only proves you minted a token. Saw some neckbeards on twitter talking about how they bought a fake lmao. Then when you sell the NFT you are profiting off someone elses copyright, with proof.

it’s a legit concern that could threaten the legality of whatever project it is.

The value of the pictures don't matter. They're putting an amount in so they can be eligible for airdrops. They just pick whatever picture they want to do it with. I bought a picture of two Spideys pointing at each other.

so you make sure you are buying the artists original work and not a copy
this is verifiable on-chain
>have to do a little work to make sure you're not getting scammed
wow, this is incredibly unique to NFTs

NFTs are not meant to be kept secret and actually you really couldn't if you wanted to
unless you bought it directly from the artist and it was never publicly advertised
but even then it's viewable on-chain
