I don't even know how the vault mechanism and liquidity farming for YFI works; there was no documentation or white paper I saw when it was first released and what's out there now isn't too clear either. From what I see it's completely automated and doesn't need any manual intervention? I'd trust that more in a sense.

The funds used to invest are pooled from the staking rewards. when you claim your staked catnip you get 80% & 20% goes to the investment fund. So it's actually risk free for the holders.

Yes there's more risks to mining and typically why the rewards can be better. If NIP goes to zero, your ETH will lose value too look up impermanent loss. I have a small percentage mining and the rest just staking more NIP. I really don't care about DOT voting too much but Dark Nyan could have really high value.
