Both MSFT and Sony are releasing all digital versions of their consoles at a discount. MSFT is looking into streaming games, as well. As has Google. NVDA is also balls deep in that territory, between MSFT GOOG and NVDA trying to stream games, and digital downloads I don't see GME working with its traditional sales model. Game streaming has been tried for decades, it never has and never will work, not to mention that many markets still don't have unlimited data for internet.
As for nvidia's solution, which I'm familiar with, it's outrageously buggy to the point of being unusable (random chance that you take 50 tries to connect to the server and it fails the whole way, while the next day it just works, but then randomly drops you out of the game) even beyond the ridiculous issues with compression and lag.
Other solutions work better but have similar slews of problems.
GME absolutely needs to digitize in some way and, with console makers waging war on used games and game trading, this will be a tall order. However, game streaming isn't even remotely a threat. There are many ways to turn GME around but I don't think the board has the balls to OK what it takes.
