These figures are so misleading it hurts. To use the uniswap pool as the example, because it's frankly a lot simpler.

The pool, like all uniswap pools, has a 0.3% transaction fee. The pool also has relatively low liquidity ($510k at time of writing). Having low liquidity in a pool that occasionally has high volume leads to outliers, and those outliers are skewing the figures they provide. For example, if we look back to 11 August, 24h volume was $3.2m, a little over 3 times the liquidity at the time. The returns from swap fees on that day alone work out to a little over 1%, but using that as a basis for APY is nuts, because if a pairing sustains that volume, more liquidity will be added, which will dilute the swap fees contribution to the pool. In this case it doesn't even matter, because that volume only existed on a fraction of days, and clearly isn't sustainable.

Also, please consider that using their method for APY, you could just as easily say that something like the YFBETA/ETH pool, which today has 24h volume roughly three times the liquidity, could also generate those returns. But clearly over the span of a year that's nonsense.

the original idea was that you were bullish on the tokens for the long term, so you held and dca'd into the original pool (before the hack). the sta token would yield extra roi on your investments because of the burn, which increases volume. so more fees. so the original tokens all go up, sta goes up, and the burn cause more fees, which means you get more money.

the plan was to keep pooling in the fund, and then hopefully word caught onto the normies, and then boom, sta would rise exponentially cause there would be less supply of the sta token. however, it was never a get rich quick scheme. it's supposed to be an index.

after the hack and the pools have changed, it's all different. and quite frankly, the idea isn't as solid. i say that as a classic holder, and then a day0 buyer of sta v3.

now, the way forward for this type of thing is simple. either you wait for balancer gold to come out, which is capable of working with deflationary tokens. or, someone builds their own index type platform, which uses liquidity from all the top tokens and constantly pools them automatically with sta, to keep the rotating highest earners around. kind of like a computer based vanguard. using the sta token to generate free volume, and fees.

There's no marketing, its a side effect of trying to be transparent with the token supply. The dev kept very little and a lot of it was used up refunding holders after Balancer got exploited. People have donated a lot but that even turned into a source of fud, as there is a slew of new holders who didn't understand this and called the donators inside traders.
