XRP is the standard. I’m all in for it and am convinced that it’s the one. That site is utter bullshit though.

I work in banking (markets legal - at a bank prominently held out as buying into the Ripple system (not BAML)) and if SWIFT were being turned off any time soon, I’d know about it - half the bank would.

SWIFT will not last, but it’s not going to be ‘turned off’ any time soon. It’ll die by attrition as first some banks start to move away then others until there’s no clients left.

Wouldn't the cost savings of a single large bank moving away from SWIFT basically ensure every other bank need to switch or die, almost immediately?
The QFS and XRPL are significantly faster and cheaper than the SWIFT system.

Will do. We’re all working from home, so you don’t get the same opportunities to shoot the shit with people, but I’ll try to do some digging on whether we’re actually going to move any time soon. Truth is though, despite being connected to Ripple, it’s not a Tier 1 bank, so the strong likelihood is that we’ll be a follower and only switch after the big boys tell us to.

First the big boys will do it, then the Tier 2, then the rest. Each bank will need to build systems that can integrate with their current systems and ANY tech build usually takes a lot of time. Throw in the way the retail markets (mortgages, lending, SMEs, etc.) are at the moment for all but a few, and the cost of building those tech solutions becomes an issue.

It’ll need to be proven first by a few and the rest will follow when they get their shit together.

Another thing worth mentioning is that while XRP is iso20022 compliant, so is SWIFT. And SWIFT works. Overcoming the inertia will be painfully slow until you have a decent number of banks using it in order to provide a critical mass.

I’m still hoping for movement before eoy (because I can’t see what other banks are doing, so they may well be implementing). I was just pointing out that the LARP about SWIFT being turned off is low energy.

Like I said above - I can’t see what other are doing, so it may be that some of the big guys are all ready to go. As far as mass use though, I imagine it’ll be slow.

Then again, I’m holding for the long run. ‘Slow’ in this context might be 2-5 years after the first movers of note (i.e. proper banks, not some Mexican or Filipino house). I want out as quickly as possible, but I should still be young enough at the end of that timeframe to get divorces and enjoy life, so I’m not sweating it. In the meantime, I just grow my stack unless some other coin gets ahead of XRP in the running for the banks.

Yeh, the two big impediments are regulatory certainty and implementation by large banks.

My fear is that the big guys haven’t even started looking at XRP as a viable option and won’t until the regulatory certainty is in. So I think from the date we get a regulatory decision on what XRP is, there may be 6-12 months before the big guys start to use it, and only then would the 2-5 year timeframe start.

It should bump at each step, so my realistic hope is that the regulators give a view this year, which will give us a small move (but not, imo, 2k) and the big guys immediately start looking to implement in Q2/Q3 next year (which is where we’ll start to see real movement toward salvation)

>> No.22306559

If regulatory certainty is the biggest thing keeping implementation back, wouldnt the big banks push for it to get the ball rolling?
I find it somewhat hard to believe big banks see opportunity and stay passive. These are entities that appear to have one finger on the pulse of major market shifts and another finger on the trigger to make it happen.

There’s a few reasons why not.
- They’re risk averse, so won’t be pushing for something they don’t know works (some tech guys might, but decision makers will want proof - another bank using it - which leads to a chicken and egg stalemate).
- They’re large, bureaucratic organisations, so changing something so fundamental will take a lot of pushing.
- You would be amazed by just how fucking stupid a significant majority of the people that work there are. Some of the staff are brilliant, but most are just clocking in and out as cogs in the machine - they’re not the cutting edge bunch that people often think they are. One brilliant mind trying to convince a sea of dunces that this thing they’ve never heard of is the next big thing is always going to be a tough battle.
- there are 1001 other issue to deal with (especially in this market), so cutting edge change will always take a back seat.

>> No.22306971

>>22306897
If there were actual payments going through it, yep - we’d be able (at least internally at he bank) to tell. I’d have to look at any legal agreements underpinning the system, the trading desks and ops guys would want to know if sending XRP instead of the dollars that we’re contractually obliged to send is permissible under our trading agreements - it’d be a whole thing.

Well, there’s always the conspiracy that whoever tells the “decision makers” at these banks what to do (illuminati, elites, whatever) will force that decision through per their predestined schedule. Plus, they have been working on this project for what, 8 years? It’d be surprising if they didn’t already have the tech to get the ball rolling. Who knows. The problem with the schizo theories isn't that they are necessarily wrong but that they assume that the perpetrators of these conspiracies are not human. What I mean by that, is that for these theories to work on their timelines then they have to assume that the decision makers in this conspiracy are perfectly logical and prescient beings. It would require these people to be able to predict things decades down the line with absolute perfection. Reality is much more chaotic than that and people are much more unpredictable than that. No, Link is dead in the water. PoS is a very insecure system, and Link doesn't scale at all. Flare does everything Link is supposed to do, but on a ledger already distributed and used by banks, with a fraction of both the cost and transaction time.

Link has already had its peak.

If you [do] by XRP, it will crash soon after.
