If read Vitalik's latest post about gas you would see he basically said that long term outlook for gas prices isn't good. Even with 2.0. The thing is, as soon as TPS goes up, the demand for the network increases. Most people would do smaller, more frequent trades on uniswap for example if the network was cheaper to use a smart contract. Therefore, long term, it probably won't ever go down to the point people want. That is why Layer 2 will be the answer for all of this. Luckily, they are already working on migrating Uniswap v2 over to xDai.
