Would I get into legal trouble for secretly automating my job?

>be me
>graduated with bachelor's
>want to get job
>avoid all one's mentioning data entry since I wanted a job that actually required smarts and not just punching in bits of info
>get what looks like perfect job for just out of college
>pays almost 20 an hour and awesome benefits
>get job
>go in for first day of training
>literally just data entry
>could do everything I was trained with just copy/paste
>even sends me a step-by-step guide that is standard for all files submitted by clients
>realized what I got myself into
>10yearsofcopy/paste.exe
>existentialdread.wav

I realize a python bot could easily do this part of my job, wanted to know the obstacles of making one before I do.

Problem #1: I don't know a single coding language. Not python or any other.
Problem #2: I can't show anyone else the process without showing them sensitive information that company would sue me for sharing.
- also why I can't just delegate this to someone else.

Advantage #1: I'm allowed to work remotely because of big flu.
Advantage #2: I have another computer to make the bot on without company knowing.
Advantage #3: I have access to the training the program they used to train me, which I can use to test the bot without affecting the company's real database.

Can I do it biz?
Would I go to jail for even trying?

On my last year of CS, and I realized that I’d rather do something IT related such as system admin. Same pay less headaches

Is there even a law prohibiting it?

use autohotkey or macro express if you dont want to code anything

>> No.22145816

>>22145040
Why the fuck would this be illegal as long as you’re not sharing anything to anyone? You’d need admin rights on your work PC to run the script which you probably don’t have but other than that it sounds easy enough.

>> No.22145903

Make the bot, offer to sell it to your company for 10-20 years of wages, tell them now they just need one person overseeing the bot doing data entry (you) rather than a dozen trainee monkeys, tell them you’ll do it for $50 an hour.

>> No.22146097

>>22145040
No, but the reason they don't already do that is because your script is bound to have errorrs that are only discovered later on, and when that happens it will cost them lots in time/fees whatever. IF your excuse is "well it was my script" that did it, you'll probably get fired.

Why not just replace any sensitive information with random text or numbers? The script should work the same way for the most part if it's just automating data entry
Also can't really see you getting caught unless your company has a keylogger installed on your computer

Best idea for actually pulling this off. Thanks, fren.

yaaah. I guess I should be more worried about losing the job than jail.

You won't get in legal trouble, but NEVER tell anyone what you're doing. They'll tell you good job for being efficient and then fire you.

>> No.22146444

>>22145040

Python might take you awhile, but after 20-30 hours or so to learn and write a program might be worth it. It's not a legal problem at all, in IT that's half the job in most places.

Dude theres nothing companies can do to get you thrown in jail unless you literally embezzle money. If they tried to threaten you with law here you could sue them for millions with the help of pro bono workers rights lawyers. Trust me.

Its 100% legal. I wouldn't tell them about the script unless you're confident that attempting something like >>22145903 wont get you fired. Otherwise just automate that shit and let the money roll in for doing nothing

Employment agency.
Firm literally doesn't even bother uploading their open jobs to linkedin or any other board. They just hire through the temp agency.
I'm technically temp-to-hire at the moment.

Work's so tedious and time consuming, I won't have time to do anything other than the data entry unless I automate something.
