I got a shit customer service job at a bank which gave me a foundation level of experience in corporate finance. Bank then paid me to do CII level 4 diploma in regulated financial device (this job paid me £19k a year). I grinded the exams, got a £26k a year job as a junior IFA and early this year I got pay rise to £32k. I am very much on track to a be a financial adviser by the age of 30. Not bad for a stoner with an English degree.

I feel I got really unlucky in my teens. I studied for a City & Guilds to become an electrician. To progress to the 2nd year at college I needed an apprenticeship which I could not fucking find in over 10 months of applying.

Apprenticeships seem a lot more common now but at the time I couldn't find shit. I even worked for free for a company for a year, 1 day a week while at college. About a month before I completed the year at college the company "changed management" and I was told they won't be able to offer any apprenticeships.

Turned out alright in the end as I just signed up for an engineering qualification which then led to me going to university and getting a degree in Civil Engineering. But I'm still ultra salty about the electrician thing not working out

Honestly, you just have to be better than the average. I fucked up my A-levels and went to a pretty shit tier uni to study chemical engineering. I managed to get some internships through networking with random people outside of uni and family and that allowed me to secure a decent graduate job. A lot of the time people who are at uni are never thinking about the next stage. Just because you are at one level doesnt mean you dont plan for the next. As a result, a lot of my peers ended up with jobs they don't really enjoy or pay well.
In hindsight I would advise against studying any sort of STEM and go straight into something finance related, or computer science related - thats where all the big bucks are at.

I was in the same boat anon. Thought about coding but didn't know where to start (someone help?) So while wagecucking I did a distance learning accountancy course. Skip 2 years and I'm now working at a local council on 30k a year, it's a comfy AF job and I have more exams coming up for full qualifications, jn a few years I'll apply for higher positions (50k+). Currently helping numerous limited company's offset their tax and directors paying as little tax as possible. It's a great job as you meet all the right people who will think you are some sort of wizard for helping them not pay tax.
