I've had the same observation. Some of my friends in uni for example complain about their paychecks disappearing so fast. But they don't want to listen when I say they're wasting it on expensive takeout, large amounts of alcohol and weed/cigarettes, and they could easily save more than 1/3rd of their income if they moderated those expenses.

I've learned people complain not because they want a solution, they just want to vent. They don't want change, change is too hard.
