How worthless is a degree in economics? What about a graduate degree in economics?
Assuming zero student debt obviously

having a econ degree is just going to be you working for commies trying to prove that yes 2+2 can equal 5 given this and that bullshit.
its basically a "political science" degree with math

Equivalent to any fine arts degree. Can be good if you go to any ivy league school but if you go to anything less I'd like fries with that wagie.

What fucking world do you live in where an econ PhD or even MS has any trouble finding a high paying job?

I was speaking towards a degree not a PhD.

I know a guy who is soon graduating from an Ivy with a PhD.. His plans are to become an academia cuck. What a shame, he could easily pull a CEO/10k day job with his education.

Even then you'd be wrong since econ graduates have the highest average salaries in the long term.

Well, they don't teach you Economics for starters. The upside is you'll understand Marxism.

My school offers 3 specializations, which are economics and finances (which gets you streamlined to banking and financial institutions), Data science and government funding administration

Mostly qualifies you for any finance related job and govt/non profit jobs. If you do econ the whole point is to be an applied statistician focusing on finance and economic stats. If you only focus on macro and general theories then just assume you're going to work non profit/govt (if you're lucky), but mostly academia because it's useless outside those areas. Private companies have very specific needs and those are only related to being a quant code monkey so focus on learning Python, MySQL, and whatever stat software is popular in your country.
If you do none of the above, congrats your about at useful as someone who majored in pottery.

IIRC it's relatively easy for econ grads with a quant focus to bifurcate into software development and database jobs as well

Last night I met a third year econ student (UK Russell Group uni) in the pub, asked him what he made of Powell’s speech this week. He didn’t even know who Jerome Powell was.

Meme degree confirmed.
