I'm an architect. Hire one.
Not nearly enough respect for architecture these days and it's truly the patrician's art.
I'll make you a basement fit for a king.

What would it take to design and build something like this concrete Victorian house?

>> No.22015809

>>22015394
to let the looting hordes in more easily. If I were going to build a house these days it would be a kevlar reinforced concrete ziggurat, converted missile silo, or decoy house thats really a reinforced entrance to the interior of a mountain

I'm an architect too anon. No money in it right? thats why crypto is my hobby

I mean it's doable.
The thing is that you might end up with sort of a McMansion. You are probably better off buying an old building and just renovating it.
Besides that though there's no reason you couldn't have that. With some exceptions, and these depend on where you're from but for example:
1) are highly skilled craftsmen required? Is there elaborate stonework for example. Guys who can do things like that are nowhere near as common as they were in Victorian times and so cost money. And this applies to odd things that were once very cheap methods of construction. Like a thatched roof. How many people out there can still properly thatch a roof?
2) safety regulations are a real cunt. Some of those buildings have features that would no longer be allowed. In my country new houses aren't supposed to have a fireplace any more. So no new houses have chimneys. Quite sad if you ask me.

It's bullshit isn't it? I hear Canada pays well but I'm not sure. I'm European.
I'd even be ok with the irritatingly low pay if it at least came with respect and prestige, but I find besides the older generations, people just don't think architects are important any more. Really an awful state of affairs

This, you know an architect designed something vs almost every dwelling, which is just a functional box. Its art, there is a aesthetic that only an architect can make. Im old now, to late knh life to have a designed home...
