Tesla's business model at it's heart is fairly simplistic so I don't think contract simplification will add too much value to their company so even if they do integrate it eventually I don't see it as being a big deal.

I can say that a reasonable price is what people are willing to pay. If they are willing to pay $2200, then yes.

Do I think that much of its value comes from unquantified variables? Yes.

Is it "over-valued" by traditional measures, yes.

Are those models perhaps bad at predicting or valuating this stock, perhaps.

One thing I know for sure is, I won't think that I am more intelligent than the mass intelligence of millions of investors. If my model says it's super overvalued, then it's probably my model that is wrong, or a combination.

To me, it seems like you're basing this off opinion and some markers that have been shown to be loosely correlated with stocks in a 100 year time span.

Don't get me wrong, I think TSLA is a very high variance investment too, it's a do or die sort of. So it might crash etc, but that doesn't mean that there was 0 probability of it succeeding. It just means that X event happened with Y assigned probability, and that values should be weighed as such.

The global car market sold 80 million cars last year. The most valuable car company by far, Tesla, sold 370 000 cars and were only profitable because they have been selling an extraordinary amount of carbon credits.

The top 5 companies with most sales (Volkswagen, Hyundai, GM, Ford and Toyota) combined accounts for roughly half of those cars sold (40m) and Tesla is worth more than all of those companies combined.

As a hypothetical, Tesla sells roughly 100k cars a quarter, to be extremely generous and say they somehow are able sell 20m (~twice the next competitors Toyota and Volkswagen) to sort of justify their current valuation, they would need to increase their production to 5m a quarter, or 50x their current capacity. Teslas newest gigafactory is claimed to make 500k cars a year, so they would need 10 more of these. In their history they have 4 factories (none can produce this capacity yet) and are in the middle of making one, they take roughly 2 years to plan and build.

Do you remember that part in old school when the fraternity pledges stand on the roof with the weight tied to a rope, with the other end of the rope tied to their dong? If you own TSLA and don’t have puts to protect you, you’re the guy who get his dick ripped off.

Bros I have $100k in Tesla currently and I am scared shitless of the split, what do I do? Like I legit haven’t been able to sleep the past couple days and I prob won’t be able to this weekend either.

please dont do this. literally never bet against Musk, you're going to get burnt. It's just a fact dude. We've been having this conversation for what seems like a decade. Yes, nothing makes sense about the TSLA valuation - but its going to keep going up regardless. Just leave it alone, bro.

to be fair, ML models like these would be very much proprietary to Tesla as would any logic around them

just because open source tooling isn't suitable to handle this yet doesn't mean tesla can't

most companies that have growth targets like TSLA coupled with massive stock increases this past decade, typically lag the following decade. or can not justify future growth potential to the same degree as before

All the financial numbers/ratios for the past few years have turned out to be in line like other car companies.

I think it will tank at first when people get their money to the dollar from instinct thinking it will be safer. Then it may go back up if the dollar proves not as safe as people thought.

i'm a machine learning phd student, you are right and the other anon is wrong. deep learning by itself is probably not going to be enough to get to the level of fault tolerance needed for self-driving cars. people more involved with the industry know this, valuations for most self-driving car startups have gone down a lot. tesla is just immune because of the elon cult

cheap, shitty, unsatisfying, and they leave a bad aftertaste. The only time you actually want their help is when you're already insured against whatever crime is being committed.
