Normally the Fed targets 2% inflation. Problem is that over the decades, inflation measures have been fucked with so much to bury actual consumer price inflation, that it's nearly impossible for the Fed to actually hit the target. It's the equivalent of someone saying "I want to be able to deadlift two plates" then welding the plates to the platform they are standing on, and when they can't lift saying "oh wow I'm unable to deadlift two plates, better take more steroids".

It's always speculation until something actually happens. It just so happens, however, that the numbers and the news coincide in such a way that make the chances of a COMEX default much, much higher than normal.

For COMEX to break would require one of two things to happen.

That's unknowable and anyone who ever tells you that they have a firm answer is lying. If you keep very close track of things you might be able to say for sure like one or two months ahead of time, but even that is questionable since the COMEX is incredibly opaque and has never been properly audited.

It may or may not, but either way will ultimately be positive for PM prices. If shorts stop shorting, PMs go up. If they keep shorting and COMEX defaults, PMs go up. COMEX defaulting is brought up here because if COMEX defaults, PMs won't just go up 50 or 60%, they'll go up 5-10x within a few days. It's unlikely, but it's a catalyst that could trigger a BTC in 2017 style moon mission.

What you need to worry about if you're thinking about selling is not the COMEX at all, it's fiscal. If the Fed and Congress stop printing, if Fed commits to no YCC or NIRP, if Congress just can't pass stimulus and for some reason Trump won't tap the TGA, THEN you need to be worried about PM prices. Right now I think that's very unlikely, though if we go another few weeks without any stimulus prospects we may see another March type flash crash before Congress gets their asses in gear.

Something to keep in mind that I don't think gets said enough in pmg is that while JPM and others have been suppressing PM prices, it's not like low PM prices were their goal. Their goal was to make shitloads of money by being able to manipulate a multi-trillion dollar market. It just happened to be the case that the best way for them to do so was also a way which had a side effect of keeping prices down. Unless they're idiots, they're not going to keep doing that when it's clear that won't work. That's why I think that long before COMEX defaults, the shorts will just back off and let the price rise. That reduces demand for physical delivery, which lets COMEX live another day.
Its only if we really are facing hyperinflation (as in the kind of inflation where you go to the supermarket and things are double what they used to be last week) OR JPM and other shorts are incredibly stubborn/retarded that we will have to worry about a COMEX collapse. Could it happen? Yes. But IMO unlikely.
