Basically with all the DEFI stuff here but ETH 2.0 isn't ready yet, it needs a layer 2 scaling solution. xDai is a layer 2 scaling solution. You can also build certain defi applications on top of it like a uniswap clone. xDai has a bridge that lets you move ETH tokens to it, and then you can move them around on chain for an extremely low fee.

Also unlike scaling solutions like OMG, you can actually deploy ETH smart contracts on xDai. This means it is likely the only scaling solution with full EVM compatibility for at least 6 months (optimstic rollups are supposed to be released then). The truth is, it will probably be used indefinitely as with the current rate of growth even ETH 2.0 would need some help from layer 2s.

there is a wraped Link contract, people deposite link into the bridge, then you get a 1 to 1 wraped link, then you can trade that token on the xdai chain. At any point you can convert your wrapped link back to real link, because to make a wrapped token someone has to have deposited it in the bridge
