>tfw consultant at huge New York firm you've probably heard of
>already expected to work 60+ hours per week
>work from home means working even more because coworkers are literally always online
>work from 6am to midnight virtually every day
>All hours are logged with the exact task of what I was doing and billed to clients, so "pretending to work" doesn't work
This is fucking hell jesus christ. I mean I am making just over 6 figures fresh out of college but how the fuck do people do 10+ years of this? How?

I have a wife and kid too. The thing is I had 3 job offers all at once, but I chose this one because they offered about 20% more and were far more prestigious, whereas the other 2 were for analyst, not consulting, roles in other states. My wife told me to take the easier jobs, but I just couldn't bring myself to give up this consulting position because I figured I can always switch to the easier roles later in life.
Now I have 0 time to actually see my wife and kid except maybe Friday nights/Saturday, I guess. But even then there's a lot of studying and documentation to read to prepare for the next week.
I can't imagine doing this for 10 years.
>>21904297
I remember the LINK ICO. I've been holding ETH, BTC, and some shitcoins since late 2016 actually, but I've only actually made about $300,000 post-tax on it in that time. Not nothing, but not enough to avoid working like this forever.

It depends on the business you're thinking of. Use this time to plan your future as well. You're probably way wealthier than me so do not listen to me at all.

Just curious, what do "consultants" actually do for a living? I always considered it a meme job.

Well in my case, we consult insurance firms. So not management consulting, even though I realize the OP makes it seem that way. So for example if there's some new reporting standard that the government or insurance association (NAIC) is requiring and a smaller insurance company is unable to efficiently produce all their reports/project what their asset values will be, they might hire us and then we'll adapt their entire workspace to new software that efficiently runs scenario projections. We'll set them up with everything they need to successfully convert all their projecting models to the new system and produce any financial reporting they need.

The "easier jobs" I mentioned above are basically jobs at the insurance companies that would be the clients of this consulting firm. Apparently we're one of the most expensive consulting agencies in the world to hire too.

kek this is also true. I've been told before to just "give the client confidence by being there, even if you don't yet know what's going on." and "oftentimes we help our clients by getting them to talk to each other without them even realizing it."

It’s a tough situation OP. Everyone I’ve known who has done your job gave up after five years max or lost their fucking mind. I would say start saving as much as you can and move into a different career. If you have an end in sight it becomes infinitely more manageable to deal with the stress.

Oh I bet. I just wish I knew how much is enough to quit. The reason I don't "know" is because if we're going by salary alone it will literally never be enough. So I have to invest my money to even have a chance and I don't know how long that will take.

That sort of what I’m saying insofar as I was alluding to the idea that if you want a job in six months it’s probably not a bad idea to start putting yourself out there today. I’m also suggesting that you take a critical look at your life, focusing on your health, mental and physical, and ask yourself if you think you’ll be in a better state to put yourself out in there six months from now rather than starting today.

I am a human capital consultant (within management consulting). I mostly work with clients undergoing mergers. Guiding them through best practices and whatnot. Sometimes I do strategy work for technology transformations but for that I basically take my company’s standard strategy deck and match the colors to my client.

Management consulting is a lot of meetings and slides.
