21842974 No.21842974 [Reply] [Original]

I'm bored just being a successful trader. There's nothing to live for and life is too easy just coasting. It seems like I can make all the money I want with a snap of my fingers. I need competition to bring me to my full potential, and that's where you guys can come in.

I know that I'm the best trader here and I'm willing to prove it. If anyone wants to compete against me, for any duration of time, I'd be happy to keep track of a friendly game (with any number of us simultaneously) where we all start at the same date with an equal amount of starting capital, and after a span of say, one month, the winner is the one with the highest percent return on the starting capital.

It'd be as easy as screenshotting your positions as you enter them and posting them to a dedicated thread every monday/wednesday/friday night.

Any form of trading is allowed, as long as it's manual trading (no algos). Crypto, stocks, options, forex, even stuff like steam marketplace items would be allowed.

I propose we start August 31st with $10k starting capital (to include hopefully as many people as possible) and post our positions to the dedicated threads as the orders are filled.

By September 30, we'd know who among us are the best traders.

I'll post another thread about this on Wednesday, the 26th, and Friday, the 28th.

I think that's a fair amount as any amount of downside on the front-end could still be usable with decent risk management.

Also, with something like 1k, I'd expect some anon with 2 decent options yolos to get an 'undeserved' win. Probably most people won't treat 10k like it can be thrown in the bin.

Can any of you even pose a threat to me? Is there anyone else that thinks they're even half decent at trading?

Surely there must be at least one other trader here with blood that runs hot, thinking they're the best.

Where are the other richfags? Sunken into the sofa, glued to the TV? I'm trying to offer you a chance to get in touch with reality and better yourself. Show the small fries how it's done. Prove to yourself that you've still got it.

I ate s*** day in and day out, started with steam marketplace, got a good understanding of basic market strategy and most importantly market manipulation. Then move to crypto where it was basically the same thing but at scale. Finally, moved to options trading where I've been spending the most time lately.

I think options are the way to go if you want to become a good hands on trader. I recommend TD Ameritrade's education section and their thinkOrSwim platform. You can do something called paper training where you have fake money on an account and can trade real time alongside the market.

It genuinely comes down to time studying the market and understanding what other traders want. It's pure psychology, everyone in the market is acting in their best interest and it's your job to see it through bouts of fear and greed.

You guys really want to make it? Do you dream of being able to never work for anybody else again? Dedicate your life to it. I know it sounds like stupid bullshit but once you understand enough about economics and finance you'll practically be able to see the future in some situations. Most of you won't do this, actually probably none of you will, but the answer to financial independence is simple: You have to consume as much data as possible about money and investing. By the time you're ready to start you should know more about money/investing/finance than anyone you know and anyone you've ever heard of (other than the superstars like big hedge fund Managers/Warren Buffett). I spend sometimes 12 hours a day just reading about current events and watching the market.

You basically live as a filter feeder absorbing little opportunities when they come. I don't think it's a glamorous life but it's better than eating a shit right out of your boss's asshole for 40 years.

I don't understand what's going on, are you guys on life support or something? It seems like this place doesn't even have a pulse. Where the fuck are the people who want to be decent traders? Where's the hot blooded rivalry that you see in movies about Wall Street? Have you been none of you guys had a trading week that makes you think "I'm the man, I'm a killer, I'm unbeatable, untouchable, none of these idiots around me are even near my level"!

It's like a drug, and after being exposed to it for a while, you become numb to it. I want to feel it again. I want to share it with you. I'm trying to offer this feeling to you on a silver platter.

Win or lose, you will feel competition, the threat of humiliation, the shame of bad decision making, and you'll feel more alive. Failures make you better!

Thanks for the interest but I want to get competitive with options more than anything else, and I don't think that'd be very interesting with that amount of capital. I'd basically just throw it at some random shitcoin that's just catching hype but I wouldn't have done that at scale so it's irrelevant. Have you ever worked at something and succeeded? Have you ever worked towards something and failed? It's about the journey, as cliche as that sounds, and I'm happy to compete with anyone. I think it's rewarding either way.

Yeah 'studying' is generic. The short list is:
300+ hours trading CS:GO skins/steam items (surprisingly a great source of trading fundamentals)

~200 hours spoon-fed financial education independently and in college as a business major, learning accounting, personal investment, money/banking, etc. (these were pretty much useless as I didn't care at the time and basically cheated on everything)

750+ hours cryptocurrency sentiment analysis on 4chan/reddit/youtube

150+ hours independent study of cryptocurrency, mining, safety, network architecture, partnerships, all the actual fundamental stuff. To be honest most of it went over my head but I still forced myself to read whitepapers and such. Even sat up late for many live streams of events for projects I was following.

400+ hours on options trading education through reddit's /r/options, /r/wallstretbets, /r/thetagang, youtube on the tastytrade podcasts, SMB capital, sasha evdakov, tdameritrade's education section (completed all 3 options courses, as well as participated in a few 1-1 platform demos), and physical books like 'options as a strategic investment'.

600+ hours general financial education free-form through /r/investing, /r/personalfinance, /r/economics, /r/financialindependence, etc. as well as books like 'aftershock', 'financial markets and institutions', 'black book of income secrets', and 'technical analysis of the financial markets', and a few I'm forgetting.

50+ hours on tda's papermoney in thinkOrSwim trading simulator.

hope that if you were looking for study material you can find a few you like here

As simple as it sounds, you buy low and sell high. Scalping is usually associated with very short time periods, think seconds or minutes between entering and exiting. The $500 is well worth the education and platform, and you can withdraw that money later.

I do recommend options.
I know that I can make a good amount of money forever as long as I have the ability to trade options. In my experience, scalping/swinging are much more purely skill, and I can't consistently perform those nearly as well. Options take advantage of some specific market intricacies you may not have noticed, and strategies can be statistically consistent.

If I could only recommend 1 thing for each investor level (after maxing out 401k if employer matches contribution):
Simpleton: buy sp500, don't think about touching it until retirement
Amateur: 60/40 spy/QQQ
Intermediate: Hold 3-4 blue-chips and sell covered calls, keep 15-20% in aggressive growth potentials like Ethereum. Personally I'm bullish enough on ETH/Link to own them.
Advanced: Sell naked options and closely monitor risk. Compare dollar strength to metals, crypto, and blue chips to see what's weak and oversold.

I don't consider selling covered options to be outside of the buy and hold strategy. There is still some risk involved but it's better than trying to time the market.

You'll feel some amount of desperation, I guess. Often the person will not understand fundamentals and will avoid hardball questions.

I think this is absolutely fascinating. I guess his house studied flows from major funds and were able to take advantage? These terms seem older btw, I'm guessing you/friend are in in your 30's? Any idea how much he makes and how he got into that line of work?

OP I think you're under the mistaken impression anyone cares. What do I get out of you being a good trader? Let's say I win, then what? Whoo, I just risked small part of my portfolio and more importantly a lot of time to compete with some guy on the internet that wants to mentally blow himself

What I'm getting at here; is there a prize? Well I guess that wouldn't matter too much because we'd be making money but you see my point. In any case I'll be interested in spectating and gaining more knowledge on trading if you're offering that for free
