Repostan: My parents have been fucked by every major market shift in the last 30 years. They lost big on the 90s bubble, lost big on REITs in 08 (which was sold to them as a super stable investment), sold all their stocks after this year's crash (expecting multi-year recession).
I'm trying to give them advice but they're too scared to yolo on companies they haven't heard of. My dad wants to put 50k on Amazon.

Safest option would be something like SPY since it tracks many companies so if 1 goes down another will likely replace it in the etf whereas going all in on a single individual stock and it goes bankrupt will sting real bad. You'll have to research QQQ as I'm not too familiar with them. Albeit in my honest opinion your parents should just stay out of the market they'll likely panic sell an etf if market dumps. Also if they do buy SPY or QQQ dont go all in at once. If we get a repeat of March 2020 Im fairly sure theyll panic sell.

in this market, a stop loss is practically a market sell order with the volatility.
i mean you're probably already watching the stock market hourly, just sell if it breaks resistance. No point putting a stop limit blindly, it's going to get you kicked out prematurely.

i don't put a stop loss on my long term holds (e.g. TSM) since they're relatively stable even in this clown market.

Eg USO reverse split turned the contract into USO-(random letter) with lower volume. Wouldnt the same apply to Apple and Tesla? Don't want to get screwed over by hedge funds who'd be the majority left over holding.

The riskier tomfoolery has stop losses that'll knock me out if something dumb occurs. Most of my decision making is done at night. Yes, the chances that anyone here will be able to outperform a leveraged index ETF long term in these conditions is almost zero. The fact of the matter is that you're unable to make money in the most bullish market we've ever seen, it's very improbable that you'll be able to do it in any other time. Trading is not for you, it's like a deaf person trying to become a singer, and the sooner you accept this, the sooner you'll actually make money.

I will never buy TSLA. They are valued at the same price as Toyota, VW, BMW and Mercedes combined, despite producing maybe 0.5% of the cars.
And their moat so to say isnt that big. VW and even Renault are now trying to get into the battery game and even companies like Porsche or BMW develop AI driving.
Not at the same level yet, but I just can not see TSLA maintaining their "advantage".

>>21843123
I write ATM or slightly OTM puts on red days or when IV is high. Going ITM on really red days or on higher DTE.

I close whenever profitability exceeds expectations. I will close a 10DTE put after just 3 hours if it hits 20% profit for example.
>also how much money are you DCA'ing through this?
Im not DCAing, I was just to lazy to say "write puts" instead of "buy shares" in my initial post.
My bad.
I only buy actual shares for long term investment.
>what do you do if they keep going down just keep writing more puts or whatever?
Roll over, write more puts.
Also Im hedged. If we crash again I would probably profit from it as well.

*or OTM on higher DTE

For example I wrote a 265 BABA put after they dropped after their great earnings.
Or a 190 PYPL because they had high IV but I wasnt sure if they could keep their price level of 195.

Just to give two examples.

They're as much a tech company as Ford ever was.
The essential difference between a tech company and Tesla (manufacturing) is that an added customer will add costs to the company because it's an extra new car to be produced. Microsoft doesn't build office all over again when someone wants to use a spreadsheet. Retard

Yeah bro I really can’t see apple maintaining their advantage over Fitbit or LG and it will surely only be a matter of time before Intel regains it’s dominance in the semiconductor space.
AT&T with the acquisition of Time Warner will boot out Netflix any day now.

You are delusional if you think Renault is going to replace anyone. They are one of if not the most awful car companies in the world. Tesla is more than a car it’s a symbol. BMW is a symbol too but not one that’s synonyms with eco shit and changing the world.
Branding matters. Share or mind matters. Tesla is a cult. Apple is a cult. Consoomers dont analyze tech sheets and figure out which is the best value proposition. They buy on emotion they buy on feeling. That’s why marketing and advertising are so important in business
