this is basically free money for smart people taking advantage of dumb money. the dumb money will hold through battery day thinking it will spike the stock, not knowing that the expectations are already priced in for weeks before the event even occurs, and the event is where tutes take their profits. try looking at SGMO from around Oct to Dec of 2019, it's a really clear example of this, it happens all the time. ASH was their big hype moment in december, there was a clear rally that lead up to it, and then the stock fucking crashed literally on that day even though the SB-525 met expectations (but didn't exceed them, and one of their other drugs had mediocre results). that's what i expect to happen with TSLA.

and all that said you could probably still just hold TSLA for a year and make good money because people are crazy, this is more of an obvious timing thing. i'd rather stay in AAPL long term but might as well take easy profits from TSLA while they're given out like this, this sort of opportunity doesn't come around every day it's the first split they've ever done.

day traders, you mean? i agree with you in that case. those are the dumb money im probably profiting from. i tried day trading for a while on TA but it felt like there wasn't any real consistency to it, i'd make money some times and lose money some times like there was no real hard "rules" that the price would follow. sometimes it'd work, sometimes it wouldn't. trying all sorts of different setups and indicators. mostly the money was made through good risk management rather than any sort of "holy grail".

the only thing that feels predictable is buy and hold and abusing hype. like... price action isn't predictable, but people are, especially over days or weeks. so that's all i focus on now and it's been far more successful.
